UVALDE, Texas (May 23, 2005)—Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) turned tire dealers and distributors loose on test tracks the week of May 20 with new Continental- and General-brand tires aimed at the hot-selling tuner, luxury sedan and sport truck/SUV segments.
The General Exclaim UHP performance tire has a double-V tread pattern that’s not only stylish but helps evacuate water for superior resistance to hydroplaning, Tony Talbert, brand manager for General, told participants, including a handful of journalists, at CTNA’s proving grounds near San Antonio. Other Exclaim UHP features include an optimized contour and silica for improved traction and reduced rolling resistance.
General’s Grabber UHP is a stylish performance tire for sport trucks and sport utility vehicles that will be offered in 27 sizes with speed ratings ranging from T to W. Also new is the Grabber HP, available in 15 sizes.
Continental’s new flagship performance all-season tire, the ContiProContact, will gradually replace the German company’s CH95. Improved responsiveness, control and comfort for luxury sedans were the goals, said Paul Tecci, Continental brand manager. ContiProContacts, original equipment on certain models of Audis, BMWs, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz, are available in 22 sizes carrying H, V or W speed ratings.
High-performance SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 will benefit from the new ContiCrossContact UHP. Initially, the asymmetrical tread tire is offered in 20 sizes, some of which are rated up to 170 miles per hour.
