Ok .. here is what I am getting at ..
I have always wanted to learn to build a motor however the need, time and purpose might not be optimal.
Let me splain ....
I have the need for a 400 hp carb, 305 motor based on specs for american sedan (SCCA). I have the block .. heads (stock & dirty) and some additional parts. I know based on the rules I can use a steel crank, aluminum pistons, steel rods, flat tappet lifters, roller rockers, range for bore, stroke, compression (10.30), block deck height, etc.
I have a pretty good understanding and aptitude when it comes to how the pieces fall into place. I don't mind asking questions as well as researching in books. Where I fall short is in determining what are the correct pieces (size) to fit the application. For example I purchase a stock configured steel crank .. what size connecting rods and pistons would I go with if I have the block balanced, blueprinted yada yada yada. Can I go with 1.6 vs 1.5 rr without having to machine or rework the valve covers.
Do you guys have any suggestions or resources I could look at to help me out. Any clues or tips ..... anything .... On a side note, I am also thinking of having the heads done completely by an outside source and working on the bottom end myself.
thanks ....
