  • Big time horsepower head question

Ok guys, here's one for you tech savvy folks. I have a 4 bolt main Chevy Gen I block. It is already bored .060 over, has an Eagle 4340 crank, 3.48 stroke, 6" Eagle H-beam rods (strongest ones they make), Wiseco forged pistons, and I will soon be having ARP's 2000 series rod bolts on the way (good for up to 1,300 HP). Needless to say, I'm not really worried about bottom end problems. What I want to do is to be able to run this car on pump gas, and would like to be around 400 HP NA.

However, I want to spray this car and make 1,000 at the flywheel.

So, here's the question. What kind of heads can I run that will allow me to run a normal compression ratio for pump gas, yet still be able to handle the cylinder pressures of 600 HP in nitrous (it will be in three stages, BTW, a dual stage plate and a direct port kit, with the latter being the biggest at 300). And also what cam should I get to go along with this setup.

What will basically happen is that in NA mode, the car runs on the gas tank, pretty basic stuff, yada yada. When it's nitrous time, I'm going to have a fuel cell in the trunk that is for the nitrous alone, probably C16 or equivalent, so the nitrous system will only be ran when that fuel supply is available. It will have all the timing retard and everything else it needs to work. My only concern is the heads, and what cam to use that will still allow the AC, PS, and PB to work (this is a street car), yet get nasty on the juice.

I've been dealing with nitrous since 2000, when I came on here and Injuneer set me up with how to install and use my 5176 kit. I have since ran a direct port kit on my bike, so the nitrous setup and tune is the easy part to me. My only concern is that I want a head and cam package that will serve dual purpose. I know that a 600 shot on a 400 HP motor is kinda out in left field, but I'm pretty confident that this bottom end can hold it, especially considering that it's in 3 stages.

I'm not gonna put anybody on a budget here, I just want to know what will hold up and work for what I want to do. Of course, I don't want to spend thousands on heads, but if it's necessary, then I will. As long as it will hold the power yet still be streetable.
