Question about manual valve body installation

What all is involved with installing a manual VB in a 700r4 trans? Do I just bolt on the new valve body or would a shift kit or new servos be required/help? When shifting with the manual VB would it hit hard like it had a shift kit or still shift soft like it does now only when i want it to? Thanks for any input.
