engine is jumping, diagnoses?

I drive a 96 3800 V6 firebird. For the last few months i have had a problem with the engine jumping. It pretty much feels like i'm tapping the throttle over again. It isnt constant. Mostly happens on and off when im on the highway. It'll do the same thing sometimes when i just slam on the gas from a complete stop. Tends to be more common after the engine has warmed up too. Anybody have any ideas? My dad says I need to do new plugs, but before I spend any money that I may not need to I wanna see what other people have to say. Thanks.
