I hate that crap. I'm always ready to drop the hammer on someone pulling that stupid stunt. I mean, I can understand if I'm doing 100 in a 55 or something extreme like that, but 80 on the freeway here is not uncommon at all and if you're not doin' that in the fast lane, you better not be in the fast lane for long lol. As big Dale said, "Leadership - lead, follow or get the %^$@ out of the way." After all, doesn't driver's ed. teach you to be going the speed of traffic on the freeway, not the limit? Its friggen dangerous to block traffic like that.

Ok, I'm done for now lol

i have noticed you get away from either coast and th slower people will move to the right. nyc and metro area forget it!!! NJ forget it i run newark nj to columbus ohio 650 miles i run it at night leave round 6-7 a soon as rush is ending. thats when the semis run 75-80. i have found that the right lanes are ussually the faster than the left lane during rush hour or heavy volume of traffic. and im driving to la memorial weekend :d 3000 miles going to be fun

As stupid as it sounds I also feel that the turtles feel that being in the left lane is a status symbol stating I am powerful, I have a right to be here and you don't (sorta like having the ability to control others actions - a power trip to cause a self-induced inflation of ego) ... thus when someone sneaks by a turtle and gets in front of them, the turtles get ticked off and tailgaite you, acting like you killed their first-born... reality bites..... these type of people are pathetic and the most likely to get shot driving on Los Angeles Freeways

In the last week I've logged over 1200 miles and have been thinking about this post the whole time. Today I witnessed an accident right in front of me. I was driving in the right lane and the typical left lane bandits were all hogging the left lane. An SUV decides to try to dart around someone by passing in the right lane and misjudged the amount of space he had. He clipped the front of the car he was cutting in front of and went sliding off the road, overturning a few times and came to rest on it's side. A few of us stopped and helped the occupants exit the SUV. When the Deputies arrived I was able to give him an eyewitness account of the incident, much to the dismay of the driver of the SUV.

I was TDY to biloxi MS for about two months, just got back last week. Periodicly I would drive back to FL on I10. Between people going slow in the left lane and trucks I've had enough of highway driving for awhile. Don't you love it when a truck going 71 passes a truck going 70? I know I do. I swear multiple times I passed lines of like 5 people and I was in the right lane.

that eastbound pensicola bridge on I10 is awsome too, and it's even more awsome when someone wrecks in the construction area before it.. it's not like the speed limit is 45 through there or anything, so I can totally see why someone could lose control.

Is 90 fast? That's what I set my cruise at.

always a "topic of discussion" with my wife whenever she is driving....one day I told her to move over or pull over and I would drive the remainder of the trip....

the rest of the trip was very quiet

I thought I would bump this back to the top because as of December 2008, Florida is once again attempting to bring this to reality.

                  JUST DO IT!

Holy Thread revive!!! I was reading throught the first post and then on to the next by fastta........Needless to say I was shocked.

I am with you on the lefthand hogs... Common courtesy shouldn't need a law. Unfortunately, sometimes it does anyway.

Joe, PA has had this law for ages but there was never any signage to indicate it. We had the same problem with people hogging the left lane. Finally they passed a law that said that trucks can't use the left lane if there are more than 2 lanes and at the same time they came out and said they were going to start enforcing the left lane hog rule for cars. Everyone (left lane hogs) was up in arms because (I can drive in any lane I want, ticket the speeders... blah blah) the same excuses you cited in your first post. What they don't realize is this has ALWAYS been a law, it was just never advertised or enforced. The common courtesy rules of the road we all learn in driver's ed was supposed to prevail. these people are breaking the law the same as the speeders are. Of course, it took them a year to put up signs advertising these laws, but now it's VERY nice not to have trucks hogging all 3 lanes of traffic (I live in an area with EXTREMELY heavy truck traffic). And for the most part, the left lae hogs aren't nearly as bad. There's always a few though.

One thing nice about Wisconsin is that people really do a good job of keeping right. Left lane is passing only.

I have been a "lurker" here for a long time. I feel like Joe is correct about highway ethics. In Alabama where I live, the only time I have ever heard of a driver questioned by the police about "not keeping with the flow of traffic" was a female friend of mine 5 years ago that the officer that pulled her over ended up trying to get her phone #! If the rules were enforced correctly, this type of corruption wouldn't happen!

                            What a concept.

Around here, passing on the left is merely a suggestion. I'll be doing about 70 in the middle lane and I'll pass a car that's in the left lane going no more than 55 and someone on the right will blow by me at about 85.

Sad to say, I've resorted to simply pulling around in front of these type of people and slowing down to the point where they eventually switch over a lane. Most don't like it! But what really surprises me are the "thumbs up" I've gotten from witnesses to the said actions. However, I get the feeling I'm only adding fuel to the fire.
