I have a 75 year old Aunt who stayed behind, in N. O. I found out that she rode out the storm in her house. The next day she started walking in waist deep water towards the Superdome, which was the evac shelter. It is about 4 miles from her home to the evac area.
She spent the next 4 days sleeping on the streets of N. O. I need to also add that she walks with a cane and is partially blind. She made it to the Convention center where she was evacuated out to Houston.
My Cousin and I spent Saturday in Houston searching for her but we could not locate her. We ran into some relatives who said we they saw her but could not reach her before they put her on another bus and shipped her out. Today we went back to the Dallas and searched the shelters here, but no luck.
Well this afternoon I get a phone call from a guy who says that my aunt is in Dallas at the Jail. They were housing people in the Jails. She was literally in a cell with 4 other people.
Well we have here now and all is well, but I hope I never have to see any of my family deal with this again.
