  • Pumping the water from New Orleans.

Now I have a question. The contaminated water from the city...... where are they pumping it to? The ocean? I'm sure that is going to do wonders for the Gulf stream. It all heads toward south Florida.

Exactly. They claim they can monitor the contamination that way, and treat it over time. I guess we'll see.

Most is being pumped back into Lake Pontchartrain and some into the Mississippi River, both of which flow into the Gulf of Mexico. They say it will likely kill everything in the Louisiana bayous and most of the Mississippi Delta temporarily but wouldn't effect the depths of the actual Gulf. I guess we shall see.

The lake just recently became available to swim in. Well that is now just a memory. My car club used to cruise out to the lake front and sit and watch the cars go by.

Unfortunatly that seems like the only thing they can do.

We received word today from the EPA that the water does not appear to be as virulent as they suspected. While they are detecting E.coli, it's not a particularly nast strain and does not generally produce serious infections in humans. Also, the cholera, dysentary, and typhoid do not seem to be present.

As for the contamination, you'd be suprised how well mother nature deals with it. The high amounts of hydrocarbons will be quickly broken down and I do not anticipate too much of a problem. Fuel/motor oil, while messy looking, usually degrades in a year or two. Overall, it's not going to cause as much harm as the news networks are claiming.
