I don't think that it could be the next f-body but I still wouldn't mind having one.
96' Trans Am: Chameleon Green, automatic, 50K, bone stock except for a flowmaster exhaust (not sure which one though, came on the car). 1600 watt Power Acoustik Amp and 2 10" 1800 watt Power Acoustik Subs.

What I find interesting is that the MPG is around the M-6 F-body's mpg ratings, but this Impala SS has the Deplacement on Demand technology... How can our out-dated LS1's LT1's etc ... meet or exceed this car with the D-O-D technology GM is going to flaunt in the next few years You would figure that the lower # would be better than the 17mpg for an F-bod auto. Although it exceeds the fbod auto by 3mpg (25 vs 28) on the high end.

I'd wait till GM has a few years under their belt with this one (and the mechanics also) . Just call me cautious (remembering the 79 caddy with Dod what a nightmare )

Heck No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! I would rather drive a 1980s Caprice with torn interior and trashed paint!

Personally, I think this is the most retarded car on earth next to the 5.3 FWD Monte. I can't wait to see how many of these transaxles fail with the torque of the GM truck engine. Heck, the 4T65E can't even handle the SC3.8 in my SSEI...I don't drive this piece of junk because the tranny needs to be rebuilt. The Northstar burns up the trannys in the Cadillacs. This car is a lame response to the RWD DC and German cars that people are falling in love with. GM should go back to the drawing board and design a real car, and refrain from giving us this junk (expletive not present!).

It ain't gonna win over any hearts...but I gotta say it's a nice peice. I definately wouldn't put SS on it though...matter of face, I wouldn't even put Impala on it.

          Interior looks rather nice.

            Isn't the 5.3L an LS1 or did they build a new 5.3?

LS1s are 5.7's...the engine code for a transversely mounted 5.3 is LS4. Then again, I think all 5.3 versions of the LS1 is called LS4.

I know.. The fact that its front wheel drive is going to seriously kill this car. I feel for my past co-works b/c im sure there is going to be alot of bugs to work out of this thing. And that price hurts. I mean im sure it will take any honda and acura but for the price, Im sure the WRX will spank this.

Actually, the car the cops are all talking about is the new Hemi Charger Copcar. That would just about make me become a po-po.

A buddy of mine is a tech at a GM dealership and had to do a PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) on one of these. When he took it for the test drive, he said the torque steer in this thing was horrendous.

Not a bad car IMO, but also not something I would buy. Now, if this was RWD...then I think GM would be on to something.

not to mention that motor and tranny have been revised to work in a fwd car, the tranny is more heavy duty to handle to power and the motor has a special block

Yeah, I heard a few buddies of mine talking about how they can't wait to get some of the 2006 Dodge Magnum Police Interceptors with the Hemi. Supposed to be rated at 340 horsepower and 390 lb/ft. of torque. Should be one bad cop-mobile.

Yep, I am pretty sure this will be the next police car. http://www.allpar.com/squads/police-cars/charger.html GM is so far behind they are not even in the ballpark anymore.

If they come out with RWD cars in the next three years I will be astonished. Right now, with the exception of the Vette, GM is joke!
