Newbie here to the F-body world...dont hate me cuz i am a stanger too!
Just wanted to say hi and have a few questions. I have a 98 Mustang GT with mods right now. I have had an 83 and a 95 before this one. I love mustangs and would love to get an 03/04 cobra but cant afford that right now. I have been eyeing the f-bodies lately...shhhh dont tell ford!! Particularly the Trans ams. In matter of fact i have a guy working on it now to see if i can get this 98 Trans am auto. If it works out, i have to admit..ill be trading in the stang. I dont know if it wil work because of negative equity but i am trying. If not ill be happy and keep the stang but i wanted to see what u guys thought on this. Its a 98 auto with 57k on it..t-tops and all the extras for 10,900. Is that a good deal? If i were to get this car, what would it run roughly stock in the quarter mile? Right now i have a 98 GT auto which started of at 15.3..i know slow. I have it down to about 14.5 now..but i know a stock LS1 would whoop it. I had planned on getting 4.30s gears for it and stil will if this falls through. What are some easy mods that would take a trans am to a 12.9? I been looking at mods and so far want the whole CAI from SLP and their cat back and maybe the gears. Would this put me close? I heard the ls1 respond to the mods very good. Thanks for any answers. If i can get this ill keep it and hurry and pay it off, so i can get a new Shelby in a few years I know my family is gonna hate me cuz i am the mustang guy but hey i am 23, i can get another sometime. Besides..i did a lot of visual mods to my stang because the plain look bothered me..the trans am. Ill leave it just like it is cuz it looks sweeet!. Plus i want t-tops. My 83 stang had them and i miss them alot.

$10,900 is okay for a '98 T/A as long as it is in great shape inside and out. If it's a WS.6, then it's definitely a good deal. These cars are real fun to drive when mated to the 6 speed manual, however. Of course, that is just a matter of opinion.

ohh i love manuals alot too, but when i got my 98 stang it was an auto and i didnt care cuz i wanted a v8! lol. But it shifted slow and soft. Now i have tuned it for line pressure and jmodded it and now it shifts real hard like a manual. How is the factory shifting on the T/A? and can u do stuff to the autos on them to make them chirp the tires like my stang will now. I like my auto now esp at the track because i beat a 99 T/A before because he missed a shift

A stock LS1 car will get you into the 13's in the quarter. I've heard of 12.9's, but they're few and far between. Driving an F-body will definitley have a different feel to it. Make sure you try it out as you're used to the Stang. I always felt like I was sitting too high and felt a little cramped in a stang. I also felt the mustang trunk opening was too small, but I'm used to the hatch now. The LS1 will definitely blow you away by comparison. The first mustang I drove was a 98 GT...back when I had my 98 V6 Camaro (mid 15 sec car). I really expected more from the engine and it didn't feel much different from my V6.

The 4L60E auto is a good one, but they tend to burn up the 3rd and 4th gear clutch packs as they get older (over 120k miles).

Thanks man!! Yeah the trunk is definitely small on my car. I dont use it as a daily driver so it doesnt bother me but the extra room in the hatch will be nice. 120k huh...hmm well this one has 57k on it and will get about 5k on it a year like my stang has been getting so ill have a while! lol 98 v6 is a mid 15s? Hmm best i seen stock 5 speeds at the track were around 16.2 but maybe your wasnt stock or something...dunno. Thanks for the info tho! Yeah i thoughjt my 98 was fast stock til i went to the track, lol. But it was alot faster then my 95 v6 stang i had before that. Now with the mods i have done its pretty quick but an ls1 would still kill it, lol. I hope i can get it even tho ill be a traitor! lol

lt1s run 13.8 to 14.2 stock(from what i seen at the track). the ls1s are lower 13s stock. i though the newer gts were faster then that? but yea only thing i be worried bout on the 96 is the opti and waterpump for obivous reasons.
