1993 Cadillac Allante

Well everybody, I am going to be picking up an Allante sometime this week This is very nice with only 38000 miles its green with a black top(conv.) Black leather interior, and of course the Northstar V8. My question is, just how powerfull are these things. Maybe Norman has owned a Northstar before and could put in some insight(after all he's owned just about everything else ) Anyones opinions would be great. Thanks guys.

Northstar engines are wonderful and produce good power. I've never owned one but have ridden in my friends quite a bit. I think you'll like the car. They are very unique and were really amazing at the time they were sold. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

Iv had two 93's, both red with tan tops. They are great cars! Very rare the 2 I had had about 40k on them. The only problem I had with them was the motors for the tops. They suck! Its also amazing that back in 93 those cars stickered for over 60k!! My window stickers were around 63 and some change and that was just the stickers not including dealer mark up. I think there pushing about 265 hp. The northstar is a great motor like norm said but servicing on it sucks too. I think it cost like $800 just to change the altinater! congrats on your purchase!

93 was the first year for the northstar and the last year for the allante! So the 93 is pretty rare.

I also found a site that stated the Northstar Pushing out 290 hp and 290 lb/ft of torque. That would be a nice upgrade from my 170hp camaro and 165 hp stealth. I'll keep u guys updated.

The northstar has had different hp rating through the years just like the lt1's. What year was the rating for?

1993, it also said there was a 275 hp version the next year and a 4.0 liter w/250 hp. I think the 4.0 went into the olds arora(spelling). It said the 275 hp version used a less "aggressive" cam profile. And the 4.0 was the exact same engine as the original northstar but with a smaller bore.

I've heard Northstars are a PITA to work on and therefore a little expensive to maintain. I always liked the Allante's looks though. It's definitely unique. I've only seen a handful of them.

Yup, def. a PITA. I just chaged the brakes tonight. Hardest set i've done yet.
