I have a dell inspiron 8600 notebook and the battery will not charge. About a month ago it did this then it started charging and the battery got incredibly hot so I took it out and let it sit over night and its worked fine since then until last night. I have my house at school completely wireless and use the battery a good bit. When I was done using it my computer last night I plugged it in and it said I had 39% remaining but would not charge so I completely drained the battery hoping that may fix it but it still will not charge. My computer recognizes that the battery is in and reads that it has 0% left on it but will not charge it. Any ideas?

My work computer is an Inspiron 8600. The battery was never any good, and rarely held a charge longer than 45 minutes. It also would heat up when charging it. I ended up getting a new battery and the problem seemed to be fixed, although the charge only lasts about an hour and a half now.SOLD: 2002 Trans Am WS.6 - Black on Black - 6 Speed

My computer was not one of the ones listed for the recall in the chargers. My charger has been working fine I'm on my laptop now I just have it plugged in. Do you think my battery just needs replaced? The reason I thought it may not be this is that the computer is recognizing the battery and it had been working fine its just that all the sudden it quit taking any charge at all.1994 Firebird Formula, M6, Fan switch, 160 thermostat, Pacesetter LT headers, Morosso CAI, TB bypass, True duals.

Mine took a charge, but it wouldn't last long. I'm just guessing it's the battery being it's a very similar problem to mine, and replacing it seemed to fix it.Originally posted by 94 formulaMy computer was not one of the ones listed for the recall in the chargers. Where did you get your battery at? I looked on the dell website and it was over $100. Is there anywhere I can get one cheaper. Also mine held a great charge up until it quit charging.1994 Firebird Formula, M6, Fan switch, 160 thermostat, Pacesetter LT headers, Morosso CAI, TB bypass, True duals.

Turns out its not my battery. My friend has the same computer that I do and I put my battery on his computer and it charged and worked fine after it was charged. My charger is fine because I can still use my computer it just has to be plugged into it. Do you think maybe a wire burnt up inside?1994 Firebird Formula, M6, Fan switch, 160 thermostat, Pacesetter LT headers, Morosso CAI, TB bypass, True duals.

We had this problem with one of our Dell laptops at work...battery wouldn't charge but would work fine on another laptop...took it to IS and they just had to clean the connector inside the batt compartment.
