Ok,
It seems we regulary see fictitious rumors about the next camaro (or other future vehicle to replace the camaro/firebirds) nich market. We also see a lot of partial truths, about the demise of the F-body platform.
So if you feel uninformed or just plain interested in what caused the demise of the F-body platform, please read this article . The article appears dated as it does not include the latest news and industry stats about GM, and doesn't mention a strong hint about June 30, 2009 or the direction towards rwd platforms within GM and the rest of the auto industry, but it does really summarize what lead to the death of the F-body...
note: The name F-body and Camaro/Firebird brand names should be treated as separate entites. The auto indurstry considers the brand name and the platform the brand name resides on as independent from eachother, so why shouldn't us Joe Schmoe public
edit: enclosed is the 1996-2001 Camaro sales figures for an unbiased perspective on the Camaro buyability (new word I made up
) ($ being the publics voting figures) in the eyes of the public (credit goes to chirpthird.com's 2002 SLP SS)
