  • OMG, got a price quote for some work on the T/A

I've got so much going at the moment, I was tempted to farm out some front end work. I wanted new upper and lower ball joints and 2 shocks. Get this....... the shop quoted me $1280! rotflmao!

They can kiss my big furry butt. They are out of their freaking mind! I guess this weekend or next, I'm doing some front end work. Living proof of why I do my own work. I could order BMR upper and lower control arms and QA-1 shocks for less than what they want just for moog ball joints and crap shocks.

I think the book time is something like .7 hours per balljoint for the lowers and 1.1 per balljoint for the uppers . So at lets say $65/hr, that would be roughly $234 in labor plus parts. $35 for the uppers and $15 for the lowers, that would be roughly $120 in parts including tax. ~$354 is what it should have cost.

That's the rub..... my garage is fully equipped with about everything I regularly need except a hydraulic lift. I already knew about how long it would take, I already have the required tools, all I would have needed to do was purchase $90 worth of ball joints and whatever shocks that suit the purpose. Maybe $300 worth of parts grand total, and about 4 hours of my saturday morning. As soon as he quoted me the price I laughed. It seems to me they just didn't want to do the work. I can't imagine how the general public can afford to fix a vehicle when minor things break. That's just unreal.

A couple of years ago I worked at Canadian Tire and in there auto shop they would have cars roll off of the hydrolic lifts now and then and they treated it like it was common. From that time on I made my mind up not to go to a retail store for any kind of car work

That's bad. I haven't seen anything that insane since I was quoted over $3000 to fix an exhaust leak. They wanted to replace the whole engine!!!
