I dont think so. If you watch the actual radar loop it looks legit.

Regardless of the image, I beieve we are on the upswing of many years of increased activity. Supposedly this swing is a normal increase because the last 20 saw a decrease in activity. There are some schools of thought that point to global warming as one of the keys to why the increase in major hurricanes. Nobody has real concrete proof, it's all conjecture. Something tells me that unless the upper level wind currents change, more hurricanes will hit land.

The main school of thought emerging now is that global warming isn't causing more hurricanes, that's just the natural order, but it's causing the hurricanes we have to be stronger. There was an interesting write up in Newsweek recently about this with some compelling statistics.

Yup. The waters are warming, exactly what the hurricanes feed gather their strength from.

But the odd thing is there were hardly any huricanes in the Pacific this year. What's up with that?

To add to the theory we are back in a 30 year period of heightend hurricane activity, I just read this article which states, from the latest on the history of big storms over the past few thousands of years, we have been in a 1000 year lull, and are coming out of this lull. Hurricanes will be more active and stay more active for the rest of all our lifetimes

'The record indicates that big storms have been less frequent in the last 1000 years than in the previous 2000 years before that' ....'Our records seem to show that we have been in a thousand year period of relative calm'...

What records 1000 years ago? There wasn't anyone here to keep records more than like 300 years ago. The Indians did not keep records of huricanes either. I guess there radar was working right then. LOL

Read the article I posted. Scientists drilled cores from the fresh water estuaries behind the barrier islands in NC (cape hatteras). The scientists found salt water sea shells (microscopic) that cannot live in that environment, but were deposited there, onlywhen big hurricanes overtook the barrier islands. Thus this is how they have a history of the storms .. quite ingeneous and the news is startling to say the least!

I hear you there. I love Wisconsin. no earthquakes, no hurricanes, no tsunamis... we get the occasional tornado but they are usually very minor.

I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and never once seen a tornado on the ground. I've been to Florida half a dozen times and already gotten stuck in a major hurricane (Katrina).

Count me out! You couldn't pay me enough to subject my family to that crap. I'll take the snow over that any day of the week.

Here in Connecticut, we get hit with yuppies going "antiquing", and leaf peeper tours. Ocassionally, we'll get Noreasters though. Those can be nasty...
