Serriously I am getting sick of little rice burners thinking thet can hang. I am over in Germany and my buddy has a 04' SRT-4 and we have race at the track (Neurbergring) and up and down the Autobaun and there is no way he can hang with me. The best chance he had was at a 30 mph roll and he kept up for maybe 10 yards then I just pulled away without a problem. and our cars are both stock. He respects the LS1 power the rest need to get on the bandwagon

 that's a big sign pic...

anywho, yeah...I don't really like SRT4's either, but they can be made very fast with little $$$. I've seen a few LS1 burnt by these little boosted econos.

you have to understand that whatever someone buys, they are usually very proud of their purchase. Those Neons, for what they are can be decent performers. They will be faster than some things, slower than others. As an example, I would have a hard time beating one in my 94 V6, yet my other f-bodies would carve them up. It's all in what you want to draw a comparison to. In any case, they are proud owners and seek the attention of "the big guns" in the hopes that they will be included in "the club". Best bet is to simply continue to show them your tail lights.

There were a lot of imports at the track last Friday night. I saw an SRT 4 go low low 13s. That's respectable. However, the WRX's were just killing them off the line. The SRT was just spinnin all they way thru first. Get some traction and that is a performer. Just don't call it a neon. Yeah, they really suck off a dig. When I was at the track last Friday, there were 4 or 5 of them and got lower than like 13.5 because of how crappy they were off the line. Halfway point they pick up steam and traction and can move at a decent clip. Though, still, RWD or AWD are the only way for me got lower than like 13.5 because of how crappy they were off the line. Years ago, I built up a high HP front driver. Turbo, intercooled, yada yada..... In the dry, the car was pretty fun....... Except for the nasty tendency for the car to want to make a hard right hand turn underboost. Even with equal length axles, if you didn't have a firm grip on the wheel, you ended up in Wendy's parking lot whether you wanted a Frosty or not. In the wet, the car was a death trap. No traction at all the instant the car even sensed that the boost was going to build. I could be cruising at highway speed on the interstate, squeeze the throttle for a little boost without downshifting and the tires would spin helplessly. Not only that, when the driven wheels are also responsible for turning the car, you end up with a useless deathtrap. I can see most of these cars ending up at the local wrecking yards as complete totals. Some of these guys are going to get themselves killed.

The SRT-4 is history after this year. Chrysler is killing it off to be replaced by some type of crossover vehicle that I think will be introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. As far as I know production on the entire Neon line ends this year.

So whatever is out there now is all you will see. Personally I think Chrysler is making a huge mistake by not having a car like this in it's line up. That will be good news for GM, however, with the Cobalt SS and Saturn ION Redline.

As for me....... of those cars are my cup of tea anyway. Rear engine V8 Pony Cars are my favorites and hopefully the 5th gen will live up to my expectations. I really am looking forward to seeing the 5th gen at the Detroit Auto Show. of those cars are my cup of tea anyway.
