  • the track tonight

Before the track I was playing with my shifter and trying to get the shortest throws. On the way to the track it kept popping out of gear because I get the top gears up too much. So once I arrived i fixed it, tested it driving a bit then staged up. Little spin to clean the wheels off and got lots of wheelhop in the process ( for those relocation brackets to arrive). Pull up the the line, yellow yellow yellow (start going off clutch) yellow (CLACK) green (revs like crazy). I jumped a little when I got off the clutch the there was the clack then nothing, so I throw it in second and coast down the track, go the throw it in third and nothing. I thought I blew the tranny. Once I pull back in the lanes I look at my shifter and the thing is all the way down for the adjustment. No wonder 1st came out, I'm guessing the wheelhop made it move. So I got some tools from Shane and tightened em up and go to run again.

This time I don't spin the wheels so I don't get wheel hop so I hope the shifter bolts don't move. yellow, yellow, yellow (start letting of clutch), yellow, green (spinnnn). Not only did I spin but I almost **** myself because my car went sideways. I recovered with countersteer and amidst the panicing I shifted into 2nd too early (4krpm) and bogged the crap out of second. The rest of the run went fine, I'm very happy with how strong the motor pulls. Here's the slip:

    R/T... .111 --new best
    60'... 2.666 --ewww
    330'... 6.880
    1/8... 10.228
    mph... 73.51
    1000'... 13.110
    1/4... 15.517
    mph... 94.77 -- new best

2 big scares on the night. Thought I broke my tranny then I got sideways for the first time on the track. Called it a night and watched for a bit afterwards.

not bad times at all dude.

    I ran my v8 and ran a 14 flat @ 89 MPH with a 2.6 60'

You trapped higher than I did lol. Now I feel really good about my day at the track. I think I let off too early. Crappy track has nothing to tell you where it ends.

    Good runs tho.

I'm kinda half and half about the night. Pissed about the shifter thing. The sideways part was fun but scary. The trap for the 15.5 was the same almost as the 14.8 I ran last week. I think the 14.8 was at 94.1 not 94.7. So it was cool too. So it wasn't too bad of a track night.

14.8? 15.5 isn't bad...but 14.8 is impressive. Great numbers! You'd give a older modular stangs a run for their cubic inches. LOL!

With a little more traction and better shifts you could be runnin mid 14s. My best with my caprice is 14.65 @ 94.7 mph. No wheelspin and good traction. Of course I got the good ole auto tranny so I have no worries about shifting, yet.

Do yourself a favor and pick up something like a Beltronics Vector. That way you can practice your launch technique without having to go to the track. You won't have to do full runs, you can simply practice the launch and maybe 0-60. It will do wonders for you for when you actually go to the track and make your full runs. Whatever you shave from your 60' will reduce your overall ET by a comparable amount. I know of V6s that pull 1.9 60's...... that's a nice place to be with a street car. oh.... kindly censor yourself so that mods don't have to.
