    24"!!!!!!!!!! come on

    Tire Business staff report©

CYPRESS, Calif. (Nov.7, 2005) — Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. said it is raising the bar in the low-profile passenger tire market with the introduction of two 24-inch sizes for its Proxes 4 ultra-high performance tire.

The Cypress-based tire maker is offering sizes 255/30R24 and 275/30R24, which it said are ideal for even or stagger fitments.

Calling the 24-inch tires a “technological breakthrough,” the company said they are a result of a “Generation S” silica-reinforced tread-compound working in concert with Toyo’s T-Mode Design Technology. The Proxes 4 features a unidirectional “W-shaped” tread design with a curved center rib to help channel water, Toyo said.

Via its DSOC II (Dynamic Simulation Optimized Contact) computer technology, Toyo said it developed a five-variable pitch tread design to reduce tread noise caused by harmonics during operation on various road surfaces. A hard bead filler compound integrated with two full-width steel belts produces a precise steering response, yet maintains a manageable ride, the company added.

More information on Toyo’s Proxes 4 line-up is available at www. toyo.com.

I saw what must have been 22" wheels and tires on a ~75 Cutlass. The car was worth like $400 and had $4000 worth of wheels and tires on it. It sat way up off the ground too.

26" wheels have been available for quite some time also. I saw a Blazer in Denver last year that was "rollin" on chrome 26"s. I was in such disbelief that I actually walked up to it and read the size off the tire myself.

I'm sure Joe can chime in here...

Where my Cousin lives down in Fla, there are countless Tahoe's, Suburbans, Navigators, and Expeditions all with 24" to 26" low profile tires. They look like matchbox cars. The first time I saw one down there, I was stunned at how awful it looked. He said he doesn't even notice anymore because there are so many. Sure enough, I saw several more that day alone.

                I can't imagine a passenger car with 24's. We'll see them, however.

There is a guy here locally with basically the same setup. It looks like a Hot Wheels car. Nothing like a 4x4 look with low profile tires. Too bad there isn't a "barf" smiley, it would certainly apply here.

They were low profile 26s.. The sidewall wasnt more than an inch or two tall. Yuck!
1 pothole and it is all over.
