  • heart rate went to 200 a min this morning

8:55 a.m. main drag, stafford va.....on the way to the tennis courts at the high school, left lane, 45mph........

thank God I was paying attention and not looking down or around at something, there was no traffic...... we are talking a busy section of a growing city...

from the small patch of woods on the left, a 8-10 point buck runs right out and across the 4 lane in front me of...he was 5 feet from the front of the goat...i stood on the brakes and just missed him.. he ran into the residential area across the road!!!!!! dont know what happend after that..... turned left 50 yrds away into the high school parking lot where the courts were and checked my drawers......

You're lucky. I've come close a copuple of times, friends of mine weren't so lucky. One guy in particular spend untold thousands getting his 69 Vette in top show condition. Candy red paint, big block, sidepipes, etc.... the car looked stellar. The car spend 6 months at the paint shop having it done right. He gets the car out of the shop and goes straight to the vette show where he wins first place. He leaves the show and gets about a mile and a half up the road. You guessed it...... a big buck runs out and slams into the car, taking out the front fender, hood and windshield. Back into the shop for another six months........ Glad you're OK. Frogs and Deer don't mix.

        glad you missed it!
remember when claiming insurance after hitting an animal: it jumped out in front of you without time to stop. never say you saw the animal and thought it would move, insurance wont cover it

PA is the state with highest number of deer strikes on the roads. It's really bad this time this time of year. Hunting and rut season. Deer are actually more deadly than snakes. Glad you're okay.

Its not the hunting as much as it is the rutting. All over the country bucks are idiots this time of the year and there primary concern switches from survival to breeding. Not only does this make deer much more active this time of year but bucks chase does trying to get them to go into heat which makes things even worse.

Several years ago my wife hit a deer and totalled her car. Luckily, she was OK. The worse thing that can happen is when they come thru the windshield. In her case the deer hit the front of the left fender and hood first and then bounced or slid down the left side of the car. The headlight, grille, hood and most of the side of the car was damaged.

A guy at work hit a deer on his motorcycle this time last year. Broke his leg in 3 places. Took him several months of rehab to get back in shape for work, and he still walks with a considerable limp. Probably always will.

My Mother-in-law hit a deer two years ago. She was in her 2000 Honda Accord, driving home from work. The deer ran right into the driver's side fender, knocking the car sideways. He got up, shook it off, and ran into the woods. She had to call a tow truck.

In Michigan last year there were 67000+ reported car/deer accidents. We are seeing a lot of deer claims come through the shop now. I have had many close calls. Lot of times after dark you will see them about 20 ft ahead of ya on the shoulder of the road. By the time you see them it is too late to even slow down.

When I did my internship at my local police dept we got countless of deer calls since it's mostly forest out here.. I heard stories from lots of cops who would just shoot them if they were badly injured from car accidents to put them out of their misery.

In my area generally someone will have driven by who has a gun hanging on there gun rack mounted to the rear window of their truck and put the deer down before the cops can ever arive .

in some places, Raliegh NC for one, you have to buy seperate "deer insurance" for you car because of the increased incidents of deer strikes....
