  • Test drove a WRX sti today

On my lunchtime errand run, I happened by a local dealer that had a used 05 WRX sti with 7500 miles. I took it out for a test drive and put it though it's paces. The acceleration was brisk, Fit and finish was decent, gauges were easily to read, shifter felt rubbery and imprecise. Overall I hated the car. Especially the seats and the harshness of the suspension. Granted my back has had enough injuries over the years that leaves me with a desire for a more comfortable seat, but these seats could use a little work. The lateral support wasn't what I expected and they felt a little hard. The suspension seemed to bang over bumps. I couldn't live with one of these as a daily driver. This is a car for the young and less demanding. That's my story and I'm stikin' to it.

STi's are fast but personall all they are is a worked over WRX. hell they arent even that fast. my buddy drew in his 91 LX with gears, cobra intake, and a full exhuast destroyed one, granted the lauch was all STi but in the end it ran outta juice

I too like them. One day I set out to drive both an evo and an STi. I ended up driving the EVO an never got to Suburu. Fun stuff. I wanted to do a 5k rpm launch though. LOL

I don't know why but I really like the way the blue STI's look.
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
            SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
            SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

I agree...this one was blue with the charcoal and blue interior. 20 years ago I would have gone for it. That's why the statement that the car is for the young and less demanding. The fit and finish was decent, the look was decent but there are some things that my aged butt won't tolerate. The hard as a brick seats, the slightly cramped seating position, the awkward shifter position, the rubbery feel and the harsh ride quality. Ironically, I preferred my 94 V6 Camaro in every way except the acceleration, that's were the sti was a winner. The sti's launch was great, but still could have used a little more power from the top of 2nd onward. I prefer my 93 M6 in the power delivery, and my 97 WS6 is a hands down winner in all catagories except fuel consumption. As a daily driver, I would gladly choose my 145K mile Camaro due to driver comfort, it's still fun to drive and with the upgraded suspension it's a blast in the corners. With a few more refinements, the sti could be a real winner should they decide to make it less of a boy racer and more of a touring car. Perhaps that's where Subaru uses it's other models to fill that void.
