  • little fiasco ive been having with my gauges....

here's my original post at the gto forum which, go me an email response from JHP, the australian distributor who, it turns out, gets the units from GM...they are very good folks to work with too...they are sending me glass lenses at no charge...

"ok...its one thing to pay 400.00 bucks for this pod and gauges.

it's another thing to wait 4 weeks for them cause they are back ordered...

    thats ok...

its another thing, that you have to tear out the center console, spend the money and order a radio removal tool (it should come with it....)

    I can live with this....

but i can not live with the scratches on these lens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never touched them when they got here.

i used zaino show car polish plastic polish.

i ordered Novus plastic polish #2 per recommendation of someone here.

I polished them using CD clothes, the most non abrasive cloth you can get.

I rubbed lightly, i rubbed alittle stronger, 3 nights in a row now..and still........

    scratches.

i like my cars to look their best. when its sunny out, and someone bends over and looks in the ****pit..what hits em in the face? scratched up lens covers for the gagues...... come on.....this sucks.....poor quality is all I have to say......very poor.....

could some of these be on the inside? if they are, has anyone taken the thing apart to polish the inside of the lens covers?......

    wolfdogs aint a happy camper"

now here is my post today, after my little "mission" last night...

Ken.......I wonder if the plastic is just too soft and prone to scratching? Since you have glass lenses comming I guess that will solve it.

BTW.......as a side note.......on my old Motorcycle crash helmet face shields and on my plastic convertible rear windows, I always found that Meguairs plastic polish did a "pretty good" job. But to totally get rid of the little scratches, some Lemon Pledge spray furniture polish afterwards did the trick. You may want to give it a try if Mary has some around the house. I know a lot of my boater friends with Cabin Cruisers still use Pledge on their "Isenglass" plastic windows on their canvas enclosures and they swear it's the best way to get rid of the scratches.
