It's not available in all areas (like here in NC) and how far they will tow you varies in the areas it is available.
In other areas, the auto club provides from towing for varying distances. In places where free towing is not available, AAA often can provide free cab rides so drunk people do not drive.

The auto club asks callers to tell operators they need a "tipsy tow," to receive the free tow and ride home. A regular Auto Club-contracted emergency road service truck will be dispatched.

The towing service is available in most of Florida and Alabama, and parts of Georgia, Tennessee, New Jersey, Wyoming, Connecticut and Kansas. Texas will also have service in several major cities.

AAA is a series of state and other clubs, so it does not have a nationwide service, the organization's Justin McNaull said.

Drivers can expect to pay the rate charged by the tow truck contractor for rides farther than seven miles.
