  • Rose Bowl

I have friends and family in California so this is going to be a sweet victory for me hailing from good ole Texas! Actually, I think it is going to be a pretty close game and a good one at that. The Horn's are favored by 7 1/2 points. I hope it is a bit more than that, but either way I think the Horn's take it.

    The Horns are favored?!?!?!?!

Odds-makers should know better than to bet against a two-time defending champion on a 34 game win streak with the greatest running back in the history of college football lining up in the backfield.

USC is going to take this... welcome to the Reggie Bush show!

You better believe the Horns are favored. They know what's coming. Carroll and Leinhart are in for the longest night of their life. After what I saw what Fresno St. did with the Trojans, I knew Texas had more than a fighting chance. It will likely be a battle in the trenches and Bush is good, but I think he gets held up. USC probably won't go to the air because of UT's known pass D.

Regardless, it's going to be a battle. I can't wait. What do you say we make a lttle wager? How about a 6'er of Warsteiner. You can bring it to me when we make our rounds in H-town.

All I read was "blah blah blah blah..."

Fight on, SC! I'm looking forward to watching history happen tonight!!!

Make it a sixer of Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat (I have a hankering for that) and you got yourself a bet.

You're just mad because Michigan lost last year!

            Look familiar?

That looks like a picture from that game last year where the white team had only one player that was better than his counterpart on the blue team. Such a one man team/show that was... Michigan was better at every other position on the field without question, and that game is largely the reason why I think USC is going to take this game. Last year, Texas could barely beat a mediocre (at best) Michigan team and they were outplayed the entire game... had it not been for crazy heroics from Vince Young, that was a Michigan win. Vince Young's heroics won't be enough to save them from USC... USC is A LOT better than that Michigan team was.

                A W is a W.

The heart of the Trojans' defense is their four-man front which has worked well for them all season. But make no mistake about it, UT is prepared. Sedrick Ellis(USC nose tackle) and LaJuan Ramsey (USC d-tackle) give up a bunch of size against UT's brigade of an offensive line.

The "Great Wall of Austin" will be leave nothing on the table in protecting Young. The Trojans' defensive front will be in for a surprise.

Two motivating factors that USC lacks is the fact that Young finished 2nd in the Heisman honors, and the fact that Texas is hunting for their first national title since 1970.

                UT is very hungry!

THE NIGHT OF THE ROSE BOWL

T'was the night of the Rose Bowl.and all through the land,
All the Longhorns were stirring, even the band.
The tickets were purchased for the game, room, and air.
In hopes that "Saint Vincent" would soon be there!!
The fans were tailgating from their truck beds,
While a vision of a championship danced in their heads.
And Bevo in his bridle, and me in my cap.
Had just popped a cold one before the first snap.
When out on the turf there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter!!
                  My eyes fixed on the tunnel, and the thundering herd;
The roar of the fight song; I sang every word!!
They ran to the end zone, and knelt to their Maker.
Giving thanks for TEXAS, and the victory later!!
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear.
Coach Mack in his glory, "THE HEAD COACH OF THE YEAR"!
                  And our hero from Houston that I haven't seen since;
I knew in a moment it must be "Saint Vince"!
More rapid than eagles his posse they came.
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name!
Now, THOMAS! Now, TAYLOR! Now, PITTMAN and SWEED!
On, CHARLES! On, GRIFFIN! ROSS, HUFF and McGEE!
To the top of the world for a championship crown!
Now dash away, dash away, to a TEXAS touchdown!
They fought with fury! They fought with might!
They fought like champions on this championship night!
Oh! The bombs they flew, and the holes blew open.
The Longhorns ran the ball just as we were hop'in.
The defense attacked, and oh, they played hard!
Stopping the Trojans, in their own back yard!
Mack's eyes how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, the "stal ball" he did carry!
He embraced his coaches, he embraced his team!
And "The Eyes of TEXAS" we all did sing
                  A season that will live forever in lore;
COME EARLY, WEAR ORANGE, STAY LATE, once more!

Correction: Vince Young rocks. They are mediocre at best without him...

but... they do have him so I guess he makes them what they are.

Man... I felt like I was watching a complete re-run of the 2005 Rose Bowl.

And by the way... can it get any worse to be a Detroit Lions fan?

Had the Lions lost when they played the Saints (aka - the ugliest game of the season) instead of winning on last second field goal, they would have had the 2nd overall pick in the draft. After last night, that could have meant any of Bush, Young, or Lienart... instead, no... they win that game and now in combination with all the tie-brakers between teams with similar records, they will be picking ninth. NINTH!!!!

They can't do anything right - not even lose.

Jay, I'm hearing from NFL Network that Bush might stay for his last year. If he does, maybe our teams, your Lions and my 49ers can have 1 more chance at getting him. Kinda weird to hope our teams lose, but I guess it's for the long term gains
