  • First real challenge for my Goat.

I was out for a drive tonight and happened to come across an LS1 Camaro. The only mods I could see were exhaust and a big gauge inside. I came across him going about 50 or so on the expressway. I slowed next to him and we both slowed to around 45. I gave him a few jumps to see if he wanted to play. He hammered it and I was totally ready. He had the jump so he maybe had a wheel width on me. The LS2 reeled him in and put a wheel or two on him by the time I pushed pass 95 (computer beeped at me) and shut it down.

It was just a quick little thing, no traffic, no silly stuff. Gave me a better idea of where I stand. Had a lot of fun! So far I love this car.

2005 GTO, Quicksilver, 6-Speed, DynaTech LT's and thats it. 366.6 hp/366.7 tq last time I checked.
    Sold-1995 Dark GreenTrans Am, Auto 63K. BBK Headers/off-road y-pipe/Hooker Exhaust/LPI CAI/Hypertech...need some money!!!

I know, I know... Like I said just a little fun, barely any "racing".

Would have loved to see how my old WS6 would've stacked up before I sold it

Unfortunately, the Subie wouldn't be much of a match... but I'd love to hit some curvy roads with you!!

Ya Jay, your old WS6 was a beast... But, like you said I'm sure the Subie can rock some turns. That or put some snow on the ground and I've got no chance!

Definitely a sweet ride. Enjoy it.

Doing 95 mph on the interstate is not a huge deal as long as neither driver is switching lanes. I've driven 95 without racing anyone. It's just adding another car to the mix.

I've had some fun a few times. Only once did I find I had to stop. I was playing with a Cobra convertible on the highway one night. There was very little traffic. He got a jump on me, but I caught him before 5th, and started walking away from him. I noticed he cut into the right lane to go around a car. That's when I completely backed off. It's not worth it.

I've been doing some reading in some mags about the capabilities of my car. I've seen quarter mile times mostly around 14.2. I've seen as good as 13.9 and as poor as 14.6.

It definitely doesn't feel like a 13 second car - but hey - no complaints

It will hopefully be on the verge of 12s by the end of this summer with just some minor turbo/computer mods. I'm not going to get crazy. I don't want to do anything to ruin the smoothness of the motor or make it any louder... and certainly nothing that would adversely affect the driveability/cornering.

My next-door neighbor has an '06 GTO w/405hp, 6.0, 6-spd. We were side-by-side at 135mph & gaining, & his car was sounding great, but we ran out of 'safe' road, so we shut 'em down. Later, he wanted to try it from a dead-start, thinking that the Trac. control would help him. We lined them up, & he gave the signal. & as I hit the pre-determined top-speed of 100mph, I looked in the rear-view & saw that I got him by about three car-lengths, & he was NOT gaining! He said that wheel-hop kept him in the hole! Th' Goats run great! I kinda cheat, 'cause I've got th' Powerdyne SC huffing for my '94 LT1! No way he'll EVER keep tires on that thing!

From what I hear, wheel hop is one of the main complaints about the Goats. If anything they'd be more difficult to keep up with on a rolling start.

                            I definitely agree.

I know a kid at my school who has an '05 goat (he let me drive it by the way....man was it fun ), and we ran 'em a couple times on a 1/4 mile pass just out of town. Now before I get reemed here, I want to state that I go to school in Laramie, WY (middle of nowhere USA), and this street that we run on is long, flat, during the day, and absolutely no one for miles.

We have a point also that is about where the 1/4 mark would be. He tried running me from a dead stop at first with traction control thinking it would help. Out of the whole, I had about 4 cars on him. He said later he had a lot of wheel hop, which I most definitely believe. By the time the 1/4 mile came, I had him by about a nose. About a second later, I was seeing tail lights.

From a roll....no chance for me.

On a side note on this goat...being it was the first time I've ever driven the LS2 beast....AWESOME. This guy wasn't the greatest manual transmission driver, and this was also his first RWD V8 (quite the combo), so he wanted me to show him a couple things on how to launch, saving gas, etc...

In comparison to an f-body, it just feels like a very refined car. No rattles or squeaks, smooth ride, and acceleration that fools you. 100 mph feels like 60, and it comes quick. Impressive top end, and low end that doesn't necessarily slam you back in your seat...but it will pin you when punched. The car seems to keep pulling, and pulling, and pulling

The IRS is pretty sweet also. When I started pushing it around a couple corners, it seemed like the first couple times I couldn't get that @ss end out. I quickly realized that changes with a tad extra throttle That car grips nicely though. All in all, not a bad day for me when someone hands me the keys to their 400 hp goat, and literally tells me to beat on it while I take him for a ride so he can better understand how his car performs.

If it were up to me, I would try and eliminate that wheel hop, and put some bigger meats on the back. Those 245's are just too easy to light up.

Overall, for 33k, you're not going to find too many cars out there from the factory that are faster. As a matter of fact, I'm trying to think of one right now and can't. I personally don't see myself owning one simply because the next car I would like to buy is a muscle car. I've always liked the gto performance wise...I just always have had a different looking car in my mind when I heard the letters GTO. I will say though, I do have a new found respect for this car after driving one...tons of fun!
