Attractive (in these cases, classic) appearance coupled with technological innovation and sophistication. Not to be sexist (who me? Oh no!) . . . BUT . . . it's like an intelligent, beautiful, educated, sophisticated woman. What's not to like? Instant appeal.
Why can't GM figure this out?
At least the Solstice shows that all is not lost.
Even (sop to Ken, here) the GTO makes the attempt. Mechanical sophistication, just lacking in the visual appeal and styling clues to its (supposed) roots.
