  • The most ghetto HDTV setup ever.

Went out lastnight and did some shopping at the mall for the Xbox360, I picked up DOA4 and an fiber optic cable so I finally use Dolby Digital. I stopped by Sears to take a look a their TV's and the Sony Wega 34 inch HDTV caught my eye. I have read revews on it before and really hven't noitced anything bad about the TV so I decided to pick one up. When I got home I noticed something quite odd, I had no place to put the damn thing. The TV is so heavy (close to 200 pounds) that it would flip the cabnet that my 19inch Sanyo sits on. My dad told me jus tot leave it in the box until we could find a stand for it. Did I lidsten to him, nope. I decided to go ahead and set it up anyway, so here I am with a brand new $1200+ TV sitting on the floor while I play Xbox360.

    The TV

    The 360

    The Ghettoness

My kick ass gaming ... floor.

    Action shots

I don't care how ghetto it looks, I have my HDTV fix for right now so I'm happy.

Call of Duty 2... Great game.

That set-up looks okay to me as well. I know what you mean about the weight. I have the Sony Wega (32") in one of our rooms. The stand that Sony sells for it has a strap in the back that attaches to the backside of the TV.

Because it's a CRT flat screen, the weight is all in front (in order to make a flat screen strong enough, the glass has to be almost 4 times as thick). The rounder screens get their strength from the shape.

It's pretty funny... Back in February of last year, I bought a 61" Mitsubishi DLP for my basement. It's a LOT lighter than the 32" Sony.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Like always I seem to have buyers remorse after I buy something expensive. Now I think I should have went DLP but even though the TV would have been bigger I sit way to close to the TV to be able to enjoy the benefits of DLP. I have been looking for a stand and so far no luck. I cannot seem to find one that is the right height I want. So I'm going to just try to reinforce the old pecan cabinet to see if it will hold up to the weight. The only thing I should have to do is increase it's depth while adding some L brackets to hold it to the floor.

Don't have any remorse. You made a great choice with that TV. CRT's are still the best all-around value. Also, you are correct. If you sit to close to a DLP, the picture can look mosaic. I sit 17' away. About 6' and closer, an LCD, Plasma, or CRT are the way to go.

                        Nice set up.
