4th gen V6s

how are they? i wanna pick up as a new daily driver since the truck i want is gonna be outt my price range(what aint? ) and my acclaim is gettin to the point where i dont wanna take it outta town cuz of the rusty brake and fuel lines. im looking at the 93-97 ones with a stick. ill prob throw a V8 exhuast, CAI, and maybe a posi rear in there and be done with it. what ya'll think?

I'd say, get one with the 3.8 engine (mid 95 and newer). There's not much you can do with one performance wise, but with the right suspension mods it'd shine on an Autocross course. V8 exhaust won't help much and niether will cold air. If you want better performance, do yourself a favor and get a V8. They can be found for very little money. Rear drum brakes were standard until '98.

If you can find one with the Y87 performance package that would be best. They started in 96 and came with posi rear, rear discs, 3.42 gearing in the A4, exhaust pipes/tips on both sides, and sport steering ratio.

In 97 the interior was redone and is MUCH better IMO. Better air vents, extra power outlet, better center console door, etc.. Stereo isn't quite as nice quality wise, but the extras more than make up for that. The FAQ says that the car received a vibration dampener. ???

In 98 along with the front end restyling Chevy added 4 wheel disc brakes with dual piston front calipers...same as the Z28.

99 got an oil life monitor and a larger 16.8 gal gas tank. In addition a low fuel sensor was added.

00 had the Firebird steering wheel with optional stereo control buttons. At some point after 98 I believe the V6 car came standard with limited slip.

In my opinion, the V6 cars really shine with a stick shift. The autos seem a little weak.

Got a few 3.8 running around here that I know of that are quite peppy. not incredibly fast, but enjoyable as a DD.

3.8 is the way to go...

And I know where you could pick up a V8 exhaust close by.
