  • 4th gen first impression? back in 93

what did you think when they came up with the 4th gen?

Also there is not much of the 4th gen in the new Camaro, and for guys like me who started with a 4th gen , the new concept Camaro looks quite strange. I love it anyway

When the 4th gen Camaro came out I realy liked what the 3rd gen Camaro looked like and when I saw the newer car I didn't care for it at all. I thought it was too rounded and didn't look like how a car should. Everyone was going on at school about how awsome it was though.

A year or so later I fell in love with a green trans am on a TV show (Kung fu the legend continues ). I use to watch the show and drool over the car. (I know sad but hey I was young).

Looking back I find it funny that I now own basicly the same car that I wanted back then and it realy wasn't my intent on getting one

I think the new one will grow on me I just dont want the camaro to look to much of a follower and not the trend setter it should be.

      It looks very strange.

I liked the LT1 f-bodies very much when they first came out. It was an immediately pleasant and "Kick-A$$" type reaction, unfortunately unlike this 5th Gen concept. Then the LS1 f-bodies came out and I liked them even more, especially the TA. I remember that commercial when the 98 WS6 ate the car in front of him.

I loved the style of the 4th gen f-body when it first came out. Actually, I loved the Camaro the most. However, ever since I obtained a 1/18th model of a '96 T/A (attached), I fell in love with the Firebird and Trans Am (more so the Trans Am of course). I knew I had to get one.

As far as performance, initial magazine reviews showed good performance, especially compared to the 3rd gens and just about every other car. Motor Trend was one of the first to obtain the Z28 and T/A. Although they left a lot on the table with poor acceleration runs, 6.2 and 14.6 0-60 and 1/4 mile, respectively. The T/A was ~6.4 / 14.8. Motor Trend was amazed most about the F-body's braking ability. They managed to get the 60-0 time to 120 or 121 feet. The only other cars that would outbrake it were a Ferrari and C4 Vette.

But I guess we're in the same boat that other cars were 10 years ago. 400+ hp machines seem to be coming out more and more. I still love the style, though

I had just started driving the year before. I remember the first time I saw one in person...and to be honest I thought it looked a little like a door stop. I did grow to love it. I've owned 3 now....

i gotta say that the first time i saw one i was... well to young to remember if i even really had an opinion in 93. But i gotta say the early 4th gen has never been a favorite of mine i like the LS1 4th gens but i never have gotton over the lt1 camaros front end the firebirds i think have always looked good. always been a fan of the 3rd gen camaros and firebirds, big fan of 2 gen firebirds not so much 2 gen camaro (its all in the nose) and a huge fan of all 1st gen but who isn't?

I loved both the early 2nd gen Camaro and Firebird. That widemouth grille on the '70 Z/28 split-bumper was sweet.

As far as the release of the 4th gen, I was in love from day one. I test drove a '94 T/A GT when it came out. Didn't have the necessary scratch at the time. I had a deposit on a '96 WS6, but decided to pull it and save for my house (I bought that in '99).

It wasn't until last March I finally obtained my favorite 4th gen.

haha--I said I would NEVER own one becuase the windshild sloped too much and you cant reach the whole dash and its too hard to get in and out. My ragtop is now going on 6 years old and I will turn 100,000 in the next few weeks. Downright funny when you think about it!!!!

Cool! Ertl is the brand. That was literally the turning point of my car life...Porsches, Ferraris, Mercedes were all my models previously. Then came the 4th gen f-body. Simply beautiful

I was too young and stupid when the 4th Gens came out lol. But, once I started getting into cars and getting near that driving age, my mom and I started talking about what to get. I still remember my response..."I want a Camaro like my sister has. That or a new Firebird. In black." (My sister had a 97 V6 at the time, now has the 96 Z28...in black lol).

The real kicker...I also said I'd never drive a stick. There was no point. Automatics had come a long way and were just fine. Now look at me lol

Me too. I love driving my T56...especially since I replaced all the iffy GM parts....stick, shifter, and transmission mount.

When it was introduced, I thought the 4th gen was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. I even thought about selling my Corvette to buy one. But I waited.....way too long it turns out........and didn't buy until 2000. I can flat out say the Camaro is a lot more fun than my 4th gen Vette was.

Besides the awesome looks, of course, one lasting impression was the amazing raw LT1 power. The thing felt like a rocket ship even bone stock. The first day I got it, I took a couple buddies on a ride. Floored it...one shouted "wooohoo! this feels like a roller coaster!" and the other said "I think I just got whiplash"
That's always a great first impression
