"Demand from American baby boomers for modern muscle cars sent American executives to Australia looking for help. The Camaro was yesterday labelled a "concept car" but the Herald understands it is close to being confirmed for production.

"We have Australian engineers working on this project right now," Denny Mooney, the American boss of Holden, told the Herald.

With his connections in the US, it is likely the Chevrolet Camaro could be built in North America on the same production line as the next generation Pontiac GTO, which is due in 2008. Given that they share major underbody components, the same US factory could also produce a version of the new Holden Statesman, to be sold as a Buick."

    interesting......

It seems that they always wait 6 months to a year, after a car is released, to announce the better models. Turbo solstice/sky. And 6.0 GTO just to name a couple.

its always good to wait, if you can, for the 3rd production year... or a minimum, the second year, its amazing all the little but functional modifications they made between my 94 TA GT and my 97 TA turned into a CompTA by slp...im talking about the Pontiac design changes...ie: drip rails on the t tops so you dont get soaked when you open the door.

Plus most of the mechanical bugs with a new driveline and engine have been worked out.

Well I dont know how many bugs they will have as the motor and trany are both long in production in other cars.

I doubt that's the motor they'll end up using. Something new will be out by then. They needed to put something in the concept.

Scott Settlemire has posted a few times on ls1tech that the production model will likely not be far off from the concept we've seen. I wouldn't be surprised if it got the LS2. I hope not, but for now it seems likely.

He's also hinted at a mid-level V8 as well. Maybe a version of the 5.3? Power output would make sense considering they need a bridge between a V6 and 400HP.

Why would they need a bridge between today's V6's, which a significant amount of them are putting out around 300hp, and a 400hp LS2?

They need to sell a significant amount of V6 cars. Sporty, affordable, good milage, and not too much power. I think there are a lot of people turned off by having too much power. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy. Mustang sells loads of 200HP V6 cars. Either the 3.5 or 3.9 V6 would make an excellent base engine.

I understand the need for the V6 in a Camaro or Firebird so the chicks will buy them, but I just don't feel that a V6 belongs in a so called "muscle car" in the first place. Make something else and put a V6 in that.

I truly feel sorry for anyone that wouldn't buy a car because they felt that 400hp was too much.
