  • Jack Capacity Question

Wondering if a 2-ton jack is enough to work on a Caravan. When I got one I didn't have to worry much seeing as I only had a Camaro and Sebring. Now I may be getting a new jack to work on my mother's van.

Caravan is 5600 lbs gross weight. 2850 front and 2750 rear. Seeing as I'm only raising a portion of the van at a time is 2-tons enough? Or would I be pushing my luck?

Gross weight includes the payload. Should be alright. I use a 2 ton on my Trans Sport and it's the same size as a Caravan. Empty weight of my Trans Sport is 3800.

If you're going to be under the van, use a jack stand! Don't ever trust a jack by itself when you are underneath a vehicle.

Considering 2 tons is 4,000 lbs, that jack will be more than enough. Like Bruce mentioned the GVWR includes the maximum reccomended payload and passengers. The actual curb weight is much less.

3-ton jacks are just too dang heavy. There is a craftsman 2 1/4 ton on sale now for $30. My jack is in temp storage for now.
