as a minor i gotta say we all don't drive like that... lets look at the facts

1. 17 year old girl
2. She was driving a Mercedes S500
3. She ran away from the first wreck as a hit and run driver

this information shows a couple of things, first how many 17 year old women do you know that can afford a mercedes s500? so im thinking that the parents gave it to her, then to top it off she left the scene of the frist accident showing that the girl is not capable of accepting responisblity for her actions, this all make me belive that it was a girl who got her car from her "daddy" that was not at all muture enough to be behind a wheel, and people like that shouldn't be allowed to drive no matter what the age of the person

*note* the same goes for any male that isn't muture enough to drive also, it just happens to be a female in this story

I was going to say the same thing.
It was a spoiled little Brat driving mommy and daddy's car or a car they gave her, she got into an accident and freaked out, didn't know what to do so she ran. Not being able to handle a 2 ton vehicle at high spped, the inevitable happened.

I still stand by the school of thought that 18 should be the legal driving age. I realize there are responsible minors out there. Probably more than not. However, 16 is still high school age for most. At that age, life is usually fairly care free. At 18, you are entering the college/full-time job age. New drivers would tend to think more responsibly (in theory, of course).

I consider my self a very responsible driver (at 32). At 16, I know I certainly wasn't ready for a license.

I hope they throw the book at her. If I was the judge I would have the mans funeral taped and make her watch it to see what kind of pain she caused his family and make her pay for the funeral.

I understand that she is young and made a varry varry bad desision but thats no excuse. Recently a major city around me has a huge increase in gun violence and I see far too often the media make excuses for the kids that do these crimes. There should be a 0 tollerance for minors who do stuff like this. Some people may say well at 17 did you have the same maturity as you did at 25 I would say no but I still possessed more then the basic sence of right and wrong.

If your old enough to drive a car your old enough to be held totaly responcible for your judgements behind the wheel.

didn't mean to sound so defensive in my first post. i just see lots of girls that fit this discription around where i live(i live right at the bottom of the rich people hill) so i really have a problem with ppl like that giving underage drivers a bad name

I completely agree, and I think the underage drivers shoul not be allowed to drive vehicles with more than 100 hp and longer than 4m and if they really want one of these vehicles there should be a special test for that. aplies to many woman drivers who love a big 4x4 but dont even know how to park them

im with u, when i was 16 i did the typical speeding, showing off to friends and what not. now that im 18 almost 19 ive totally changed. instead of racing on the streets its on the track, theres no point in speeding, cuz u get there just as fast. i've had 3 tickets, 1 was dropped and im fighting the 3rd one and i've been to retrain.i just cant wait till the 3rd year when the 1st one is dropped and i can pay a lower insurance

Just goes to show you....if you lump a group of people together and generalize their traits, you're bound to be wrong on a number of occasions. There is, however, no excuse for this teenager's actions.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but the maturity level of a teenager compared to the average 40 year old is quite different. I never got a ticket until I was 22. Never caused an accident. However, it just means I got lucky. I did some stupid things at that age in my cars.

Not all 16 or 17 year olds are like this. Some are extremely responsible, and would never consider driving recklessly. Again, I believe that's not the average.

yea we teenages are more prone to showing off to friends and getting speeding tickects but i belive thats anyone who just got a fast car for the first time, friend of mine is 27 just got his first "real" car(its not a geo) and he shows off all the time, but i think it matters all about the maturaty of the person, if you do the crime you pay the time... so for every 17 year old that shows off and gets pulled over, just think well at least he pulled over to take the ticket and didn't try to get away...

I don't even mind the occasional showing off to friends... as long as it's done safely. When I got my T/A last March, I definitely went WOT a few times... still do from time to time. The thing I worry about more, is the street racing, weaving in and out of traffic, speeding through neighborhoods or at night on a windy road. This, while having only a year or two experience behind the wheel.

I don't want to come off sounding like all teenagers are like this. You sound like you have it together pretty good. Again, I feel people like you are the minority in this case.

Do the states have graduated liscensing?

I know in Canada at age 16, your only able to apply for a G1 liscense. Which allows you only to drive between certain times (not night) and with a sober G-class driver with 5 years driving experience with the G liscense.

After 1 year you are elidgable to get your G2, which allows you to drive basicaly any G class vehicle and do whatever a G class driver can, except you must have a zero blood alchohal level and you must limit the # of passengers to the # of working seatbelts. However, you can obtain your G2 after only 8 months of having the G1 if you successfully complete the driver training course.

And finally, after a year of holding your G2, you can apply for the road test and get your G.

I know I had my G before my 18th birthday, but I was one of the quick ones...

So, there is 1 written test, which is the G1 and 2 road tests, which is the G2 & G.

I'm not sure if the US has this, but this would hopefully provide some much needed sense to the younger drivers out their. Although I can tell you, when I got my G2, I was still 16... and was I ready to take on an automobile bymyself? Probably not, but I did alright.
