  • I can't take Comcast Cable anymore

I've placed 3 trouble calls, had 3 service technicians out to my house, and they still can't get me a reliable HD signal. On top of that, I'm paying $110 a month for TV + internet.

Time to switch... I used to have DirecTV and wasn't terribly thrilled with their service either, but it should solve the problem of not getting a good HD signal.

The only problem is that it's just TV... I'd have to get internet seperately. By the time that's done, I don't think I'd come out ahead.

There's a new cable company in the Midwest state - Wow Way... they seem to put their emphasis on service, which is a nice breath of fresh air for a cable company. They are offering TV + internet + IP phone service for about $110 (but I'm not sure if that includes HD channels) a month guaranteed pricing for 2 years... it's an interesting offer. Anyone have experience with them? I'd like to know what I'm getting in to before going with them...

I've got friends with satellite, and I won't ever buy one of those. Too many glitches. My best friend has one that is mounted so strong on his house you can do pullups on it and it still stays at 90%+ on the signal strength. But the first time storm clouds come in, bye-bye. Of course, this is Mobile, which means electrically charged storm clouds that are so low to the ground the antenna on my Firebird scrapes them, and we are one of the wettest cities in the country (even beat Seattle a few times), so that means a lot of signal loss. I can't stand all the glitches.

I have Comcast myself, and have no issues with them. They take a while to get back up after hurricanes, but at least with them it's either on or off, not skip, glitch, fuzz, "tracking", and all that other crap with satellites.

Comcast is terrible. My internet sucks, and my basic cable is always freezing. It was funny, the other day, like 75% of my channels were froze on a certain frame, and one was froze on a "Comcastic" rainbow. I rolled.

I have direct Tv. The glitches thing is totally over rated. Ours never goes out, rain or shine. It's 100% digital. Once you watch TV on a Direct TV machine, digital cable just does not compare. Digital cable is not 100% digital, only very few channels are. Satellite is 100% digital, every channel. Last time I remember our tv going out, it was a bad wind/rain storm. Hasn't gone out in the longest time.

It guess it depends on where you are located. Our Directv went out during every thunderstorm. Also you have to put up with sun outages twice a year, when the sun overpowers the signal. We have digital cable now (Time warner), it has never gone out in the 4 years we have had it. Come to think of it, our electric service hasn't been off for more than a few seconds (during storms) since we've been here either.

FWIW: I'm not that picky about the quality of the picture, so HD would be wasted on me. I frequently watch tv without my glasses on (my vision isn't that bad ). TV is just a time waster IMO.

Jay i work for comcast here in mass. It sounds to me like you get a bunch of morons for techs out there. Try replacing the line to the HD tv. Thats what it sounds like to me.

What they tell me every time is that the "return" is too high...

I'm like, "OK, so fix it." They tell me someone will come and take care of the lines outside, but I've never seen any improvement.

I just called WOW this morning - they're installing on Friday and then I'll be dumping Comcast. I called Comcast and told them it's coming, and they beged me to stay - offered all sorts of escalations on my trouble calls, $5 off my bill for the next year, etc... it's just funny that it took them until I was ready to cancel for them to respond the way they should have the first or second trouble call. I told them it was too little too late.

i wouldnt be to happy if i was you either. they should have just fixed it right the first time. ongoing problems are pretty irritating. if i were a paying customer and they ddnt fix the problem after the second time i would cancel too. oh well, good luck with the dish.

I've had DirecTV since 1996. Never a problem. My HD signal is perfect (as it should be), and I've rarely had a cut-out in service, even through the worst of storms.
