How can you make that statement about the Corvette. Nothing can touch it's performance for it's price. And if you think it through.. The new GTO is going to be in the 40K range by the time it comes out.

The Corvette is, by far, the most affordable high-performance car on the market. Try to touch the C6 Z06 numbers for under $100K... even $150K (I'm talking about a regular production car). You can't do it. Calling the Corvette a joke is just mind boggling.

Ok, I've been misunderstood. Wish I would have caught this before everybody blew-up about it. When I said, and I quote,"The Corvette is going to become an absolute joke, if it isn't already" everyone took it as I meant the Vette didn't have good bang for the buck, it was a bad performer, lada lada, lada.....You all got me wrong. What I'm saying is the leap in power/price/ and overall car has tranformed tremendously since the C4. Look at it....the Corvette went from a 5.7 CFI 205 HP in 84' to eventually a 346ci supercharged LS7 with 625 HP. In twenty years it took that big of a leap. Yes the Corvette has more bang for the buck than probably any other car out there, for now. But wait 10 years from now when they all make 600+RWHP and cost 80K and then youll see why it's getting ridiculous, or in other words an absolute joke. GM needs to stop before they raise the price too much and kill the demand the Corvette has now. It's gonna be another GTO story, the cars will smoke anything out there, but they will honestly be over priced and sales will plummet. I'm just saying that GM needs to slow down. Not everybody driving new Vettes today make 6 figures a year, but at this rate they will have to in the future.

Now that we have that cleared up lets talk about this Blue Devil. I did a little research and the Z06 superior will boast ATLEAST 625HP from a blown LS7 that may be called the "LS9". I think the only color option will be sort of the IROC blue, but they will probably have black available too.

Well, we'll just have to see. Lets talk some Camaro. It just occured to me HOW MUCH Chip Foose has done since he left Boyd Coddington. He has had his hand in ALOT.........the Gone in 60 GT500E, all his wheels, Overhaulin', Rouch, Unique Performance Mustangs and Camaros. Anybody think he'll team up with GM in 08' 09' and pull an SLP kinda thing with a high-performance version of the future Camaro? He could call it something like the LS7F. The "7" is kinda a ? cuz no one knows what small-block they'll produce with. The F would of course stand for Foose kinda like the "E" or "H" in the Eleanor and Hertz GT500. Maybe this is me just dreaming, it's cool to think of though.

I would gather the "cancelled" GTO was being engineered to the Zeta program that was "cancelled" last year. The one that was based off the holden VE cars.

I can't wait to see what they do with it. 2008 sounds like it'll be coming out at about the same time as the new Camaro or a little after.

Even with your re-explanation of what you meant by "the Corvette is a joke".... you still don't get it. No one will force you to spend $85K on a Blue Devil to get a Corvette. You can still buy the "lowly" 400HP version for $44,490.... if you think that's a joke, you are seriously out of touch with what's on the market and what it costs. The Corvette may be a joke to you, but I doubt that anyone else here would be embarassed to own one. Laugh all you want.

And I resent your insinuation that people who are 57 years old are somehow not entitled to enjoy a performance car.

Stop twisting my words. 57 year olds are entitled to whatever they want, but car sales should not be centered around their market ALONE. OK, so if the Blue Devil is some crazy priced version of the Vette that may not necessarily raise the standard for ALL vette specs, the vette was in the 20Ks 15 years ago instaed of these 50Ks. I wouldn't ever pay over 40K for any car. They're just gonna depreciate after you drive it off the lot.

Here's the one problem where I think some of the confusion from what you said is coming from... at least on my end. The reason the HP jumped that much from '84 is because of what the rest of the market has done. HP jumped on EVERYTHING. The Vette is usually a little ahead of the market as far as HP is concerned. At least as far as affordable performance goes.

I'll give you an example. My '93 Lumina Z34 had a 3.4L V6 that put out 210 HP. A V6. That's 5 HP more than the '84 Vette.... and just 6 years later (The Z34 came out in 1990). The Corvette had to keep climbing in HP/Torque. Competition was heating up from everywhere. Ford had the Mustang and Thunderbird, both with V8's. Japanese automakers were putting decent HP numbers out there with entries from the likes of the Supra, 300Z, and RX-7. The Corvette is, in reality, America's premier sports car. It needs to stay ahead of the curve.

Also, just because a performance car has larger HP numbers than before, doesn't equate to a price jump. Perfect example - Our very own F-bodies. 325 HP for under $25K was an absolute bargain.

The Vette was not in the 20Ks 15 years ago, not even 16 years ago.
MSRP for the ZR-1 in 1990 was $59000.
MSRP for the base model in 1990 was $32000

So, the price has gone up 10K+ in 15 years. That is to be expected given the progression of the market and technology. Not to mention a 2006 base model Vette is 10 times the car a 1990 base model Vette could of ever dreamed of being. You are getting a ton more for your money.

You wouldnt ever pay more than 40K for a car? then dont buy one. There are plenty of other people that will. Are you jelouse? Maybe you need to figure out how to put yourself in a financial position to be able to afford a $40000 car. Lots of people can, you're just not one of them apparently.
But dont feel bad... I cant afford one right now either. If I didnt have kids it would be easy. Heck there'd be a Ferrari sitting in my garage if it wasnt for the outragouse daycare expenses. ugh.
