    Aircraft breaks the sound barrier

And it literally appears like the aircraft goes through a wall.

I hope you find these pictures as fascinating as I do.

This looks like the same effect but this plane can not break the sound barrier so I don't know that I believe this effect.

        same here

same here. The B2 is subsonic.

The caption on this one says "glider breaking sound barrier". Yea right LMAO! Can I call BS on this!

        Still cool pictures though.

I believe I have read that is an atmospheric effect and not what happens when breaking the sound barrier, but I can't remember too well. That cessna pic looks like a photoshop, some of the others could be too.

The B1A prototype could but the B1B production can not.

Close...The B-1A met the requirement for Mach 2+ capabilities. The B-1B requirement was reduced to Mach 1.25 due to a simplified intlet and over wing structure. There were 100 originally, but now only 67 remain. The rest were retired. The remaining 67 were upgraded for conventional weapons but retained the supersonic capability.

I love those B-1's. It has to be one of the most beutiful designs I've ever seen.

Not true, the vapor trails will also appear on the wings of an Indy or Formula 1 car as well. Usually at the peak loading in a turn, combined with high speed.

Here's a rock'n vid I picked up in 2002 not long after Sep 11. They can fit something like 80 500-lb bombs in that thing.

I remember being a Wrigley Field about 10 years ago watching a Cubs game. The air show was going on at the same time. The entire game stopped when a B1 flew overhead, took a turn and hit the throttles. What an incredible sight!
