did'nt end up driven the gto today, threat of thunder storms, took the beamoth commutter van to the gym. pulled in, was sitting there hidding my hand cannon and stashing things out of site when i heard this most God awful exhaust system... sounded ricey, but also you could tell it was a big motor.... looked up to see this yellowjacket Viper...guy pulled in and parked in the row in front of me next to the handicap spot..(i park my shit way out when its the gto..people are crazy that park up close to the gym old women comming out close to heart attack backing into people, knocking door..yada yaddda) anyway... i had to get a pic of this wing and car.....my God...talk about ruining a good car! had to do it casually so the folks inside didnt see me, using my cell phone......

car had an "ID" tag on it, here in VA thats "independent dealer"..so i figure they guy driving it must be the ID dude.....and is going to sell it... Lord knows where he found this car....... sheez....
not kidding, that exhaust sounded like crap folks.......plain crap.....like a 10 cylinder ricer......

To add to that, it's a road racing wing, and probably 100% functional. I wouldn't at all be surprised if its owner tracks it on a regular basis.

As ar as the exhaust goes - a lot of Vipers sound like crap folks. The more you open up the exhaust on that motor, the less and less "refined" it's starts to sound, and can even develop a "ricey" tone.

However, it's probably twice as mean as when it came from the factory.

I think Vipers sound like beat up old trucks. Yuck. Any 10 cylinder motor seems to sound like crap.

The engine is awesome, the sound is most definitely not!!

Truthfully and IMO, the best sounding car on the road today is the 4.6L Mustang. I could only wish my 'ol LT1 and current LS1 sounded that nice.

functional? come on..you'd have to be doing 200 mph for that thing to work...

They are in fact made to be functional. However, many of them are put on street cars that are never raced.

I agree if we're excluding exotics...

I'd add that the SOHC 4.6L seems to sound better than the DOHC 4.6L for some reason.

I thought the Viper's V10 sounded like crap because it fires two cylinders at a time?

I believe that's what it is. The V-10 is inherintly a hard motor to get a good sound out of from what I hear due to the ignition timing or something to that effect.

And, I know I'll catch some crap for this, but paint it black and I'd have no problem driving it. Doesn't mean I'd pay for it though lol

I don't think the vipers fire 2 cylinders at the same time i just think they have an odd fireing order. I don't think fireing 2 cylinders at the same time is very efficient. I could be wrong though

I think if it "was" functional, I would remove it before leaving the racetrack ... It can't be that hard to remove. Cuz it looks just gross.

It is highly unlikely that Viper is fast enough on a road course nor is that spolier large enough to generate any kind of worthwhile downforce or give it any sort of aerodynamic advantage. In fact I suspect that wing in the picture probably hurts that car's aero. 99% of the wings that are on street cars like this are mainly for show. Now a high end exotic is another thing.

You guys aren't serious about an internal combustion motor firing 2 cylinders at once are you??

The Vipers sound kinda weird mainly due to their unique cylinder head design, the fact that has 10 cylinders, and it's exhaust system.
