  • The hawk is out for the season :)

After 5 months of hibernation, the hawk is out for the season.

Sunday morning, the cover was removed to see a site I had truely missed. The hawk had her 16" snow tires on her for the winter, so those were replaced with the 17" Firehawk chromes . The paint was a little buffed in spots from the storms rubbing the fabric on her, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that she was going to be driven.

After the 2-3 hours it took to get the wheels taken care of (9+ trips up/down 3 flights of stairs + a run to borrow a torque wrench). It was 65+ degress, warm and azure-blue skies. It was so nice, the T-tops were taken off. First thing I had to do was air in the tahrs.

While cruising my usual route, there were several other car lovers enjoying the day. There were prodigeous quantities of new-model mustangs and their vert versions. Looks like Ford Hit a home run with this design. The Porsche verts and BMW verts were the second most popular. Every yuppie here in yuppie mecca had theirs out on the road. Saw a couple of Solstice's as well. A red viper vert was out and about. Even a bright-yellow Ferrari was out as welll as a Bently. It was a virtual rolling car show down on Thames st.

The college punks were out as well in their SUV's. One tries to pass me into oncoming traffic. To save his and his passengers life, I had to floor it, in 5th gear @ 40 mph ). they had no sense whatsoever (they moved back over safely). I take it he did it deliberately just to get me to show off a little.

The higlight of my 1st cruise of the season, was when a couple asked how new my car was and how recently did I buy it. When I told them it will be 5 years old in August, they were in utter disbelief . It seems they didn't mind the fact the paint had buff marks in her from the car cover, nor the chunks missing from the spoiler, nor the rock chips in the head light covers, nor any of the numerous imperfections, I as the owner, know all too well. They were just happy to see a 'marvel of engineering and design' (their words) .

All-in-all It seems that no matter what type of person you woke up as that day, we all here in southern New England, openly welcomed spring once again, as we eternally have, whether it be driving car, surfing at the beach, or walking along Thames St., in each and our own special way. Ah it felt good to drive the Firehawk once again. It truely was a great day to be alive.

    WELCOME SPRING

Good write up man I really enjoyed that. Makes me all too anxious to get home and do the same with my own T/A to take it out on its first cruise of the new season!

      Nice story!

I'm going to go get mine out of storage tomorrow after work! I'm so excited!
5 months is a long time to go without the car.
