  • Home, sweet home!!

Yesterday my dad and I took his 455ci 1983 Hurst Olds out to the airport to pick up my Z28 from winter storage. My buddy had beat us out there and already had the car unwrapped and uncovered. We dropped in the battery, turned on the ignition, let the fuel pump prime until it shut off and hit the starter. It fired up like it was just run yesterday.

The ride home was great, other than I need to reacclimate myself to the car. I kept hitting the rev limiter and even missed a shift into third. I'm rusty. The car feels great and has more power than I remember it having when I put it away 5 months ago.

This weekend I'll change the oil and install the new 1LE swaybars and ES poly bushing kits. Then I can load Freescan on the laptop and see how this new cable from AKM Cables works.

    Fun Fun Fun!

That's awesome. I can't wait to drive the Bird again. Another week or two. Between driving my Bravada and the wife's HHR all winter, the Bird is going to feel like a salt flats rocket.

I think he has another engine that he bought which he plans to build up.

                I believe it's actually a 1.8 Liter VTEC.

Yup, Kevin's got the idea. I'm still in "parts gathering" mode. I have a fuel rail on the way.

So far i've got all the stock parts but the heads. As soon as I find a good used set of 1994 heads I will take a look at buying a rotating assembly. Then I'll send the heads to Lloyd Elliot and get the LE3 package. I still need lots of parts, when I have a wad of cash to blow I'm going to go crazy with it.

Before any of that, the car needs headers and SFCs.

So Kevin, when you wanna weld in some SFCs?? Should I get them ordered? I'm sticking with a SLP theme, so I'd like to get the bolt in vert SFCs from them and weld them in.

Sure just get them in & we'll do them up. I never welded mine in, though. I was thinking I should, but I put them together so hard with red Locktite 271 and an impact wrench and they are tight as a drum. I may tack them in some day when I have another welding job to do under there.

As for as your car, if you get the bolt-ins, all we have to do is grind off a little powder coating where we are going to weld them and same on the car, then bolt them up and run a couple beads, and a little touch-up paint. The weld-in SFCs from SLP are not powder coated, so they need to be painted, if you were to choose those.

1LE swaybar will knock your socks off!! It's a win-win...minimal impact to ride quality and your car'll be much flatter in turns. Awesome bang for the buck. Did you get the '93 front and rear or the later front only??

Another one you might look into is a poly tranny mount. Now that mine's been in for a few months, I don't notice much noise difference unless I'm up at 75mph. Shifts as smooth as glass now.

I got the front and rear. I also got Energy Suspension end links and bushings for them. This is going to be a fun weekend!

I'm hesitant to go with a stiffer tranny mount. I'll most likely get the 1LE mount when mine breaks.

I just got done ordering the SFCs from SLP's website. Believe it or not, they were on clearance and were a pretty dang good deal.

Kevin - I'll give you a holler when they get here!! What would you like me to do to prepare? What should we use to strip the powdercoating and paint? I have a small compressor and a die grinder. I can see what I have for discs for it.
