Am I the only person that wasn't bothered by the phone tapping situation? The government wasn't tapping in on your conversation to see if you got lucky last night or what you did at your friend's graduation party. They weren't doing it for entertainment. I can't imagine that Bush is as evil as he's made out to be. Heck, he could have easily cut that man off but he gave him the respect of hearing what he had to say, even though the guy was really chopping into him. He even answered in a civil manner. It's real easy to think someone is a horrible person when all you're exposed to is the media badmouthing them endlessly.

Its not really that i'm worried about bush tapping in my phone lines, because i can see how its for a generally good reason. Its just frightened the hell out of me that the gov't(not necesarrily bush) can so easily get around the bill of rights. I mean whats next? "Guess what we think you did this crime, its almost a garunteed thing.....no need for a trial" Thats what i don't like.

Alright either way the right to have private conversations is our right. He is made out to be the way he is b/c of himself. He has the right to control the media. Ever think about that? The whole phone tapping thing is obviously not being put to good use when it takes the Florida police to bag a HOMELAND SECURITY Official for seducing a 14 year old girl. If my phone is going to be tapped, then I think everybody elses phone should be tapped, including people like Brian Doyle. Makes you wonder who's tapping the tappers, if anyone, to make sure that they're not abusing their powers. Like I mentioned earlier, it's a controversial subject.

There was a law passed in I think 1934 that said if you transmit it, it is legal to listen to it. This is the law people use to fight the anti radar detector detector law. Technically those laws are illegal. I think Virginia has that law. This does not apply to wired phones.

There was a law passed and I can't remember when that says you can't listen in to cell phones. That law does not apply to wired phones or cordless phones.

Well said. The govermet is not going to just tap your phone without a reason. If you give them a reason to tap it then they will. You are not going to have your rights taken from you, people complain about how criminals get off because a cop didn't do one little thing right while arresting them or theres a loophole all the time but something like this comes up and its the end of the world. People need to quit worrying about stuff like this if your not a criminal your not going to just disapear without your rights.

No. If it is a US to US call the government official must get a warrant. If it is a US to international call they don't. It used to be that you didn't even have to have a warrant to listen to a phone call by cell phone.

Would that not protect it? Of course the founding fathers didn't have the slightest clue what a telephone was so they couldn't inlcude that in there, but isn't that what the judicial branch is for. To translate the Constitution for more modern times? Well, if it doesn't cover it I'm not really bothered my the fact that they listen to me(nothing to hid) I just would of liked to see a little bit more resistance to it then it just being passed. (of course i'm assuming it was a presidential action, because with all the fuss i wouldn't imagine it passing through congress)
