  • my day in "h#ll" yesterday...(long)

n 59 years.......never...ever..have I been that sick, that helpless, that overcome with anything... and it came on like a buffalo in charge mode...

and it's my fault... it all started over a week ago..i started getting the typical "this time of year" sinus infection that usualy clears up on its on with some rough days and extra rest but you "keep on keeping on"..which is what i did... stayed on top of the gym, went to work...blew out the "yellow puddin" and kept on...

yesterday morning...just another typical thursday...got up...got ready for work (4:20am) left in the commuter van for the pick up point to get the riders and head the 50 miles to work...

everyone sleeps but me.(good thing, eh? LOL)..im half way there...suddenly..i feel dizzy... i delt with it..drove the rest of the way...let the passengers off and parked the van under the bld in the parking garage. sat there a min. thinking "wtf" is with the dizzy stuff..."oh well..it will go away"... started walking thru the lot towards my office bld........I COULD NOT WALK A STRAIGHT LINE....and it got worse! i found myself walkin clubfoot to stay upright! wtf?????? got up in the office... tried working a while...as long as i sat...i was ok...or didnt turn my head side to side too quickly...but if i did that...dizziness hit hard!

well...as the dizziness kept getting worse...the nausia started comming on... so i thought "damn..im 50 miles from home...im gonna ride this out...mary is busy with rescue on the road...so im gonna ride this out...) talked to the boss and went back down to the van...looking like a dude thats trying to walk with a fifth of jack in him.... sat in the drvers seat, put it all the way back and started snoozing off... felt ok then....that was 8 am. woke up at 10:15am... tried to go back upstairs again... made it...but felt worse and worse as i was there, went back down to the van...back in the seat.... this time woke up at 12:45pm... went back up to the office again..

one of my coworkers, a young female intern...and gym rat too said "ken...you look like shit!"... "you need to get home"... "ill take you". the boss came over, "ken..let her take you home man, get to a doctor asap"... so i did.

the ride home was hell......i just sat like a statue and Lauren talked to me to keep me "sober" and half alert... i kept thanking her for doing this.. she said "ken...shut up...i knew you were real sick when you didnt go to the gym at lunch" we both laughed...

walked in the house, mary had just gotten home from a vet emergency with somebodies dog... she looked at me and said OMG!!! we went straight to the walk in clinic...... i could barely walk... as she backed the Envoy out, turned down the street and started to move...i yelled STOP...bailed out at 5mph and puked my guts out....... got back in and we continued the trip down the road.

they took me right in..took my vitals...bp was high but explainable..not dangerous... heart rate was eleveated but not dangerous...

diagnonis: severe accute sinus infection and partial inner ear infection right side... lungs were clear.

i kept thinking "it has to be something worse..how can this be it...i hope he's right..pray..."

prescribed a mega antibiotic and told me drink fluids, rest and stay on em for five days...and next time..don't wait so long to come in when you have this..

last time i took an antibiotic was over 15 years ago.... guess thats why its working so good......

went home..mary went to the store and got the prescription filled. fell asleep on the couch.. mary came home...took the anitibiotic and went upstairs to bed...that was 2:24pm...went to sleep...got up at 5pm... went downstairs..only to get more dizzy and puke again...went back to bed...got up at 9pm...ate a can of chicken soup and watched CSI and went to bed at 10pm..got up at 9:38 am this morn.....dizziness gone.....took vitimans and herbs shake..and two egg whites with cereal...feel fine but alittle weak.......

here's a guy that gets 6 hrs of sleep a night if im lucky... never slept so much at one time since i was in college... never felt so helpless...we had tornado warnings yesterday too...dont know what i'd of done if one hit...best i could i guess...sleep in my clothes and tennis shoes in case...on the bed...

this morning mary admitted to me that last night, she started to some after i went to bed... she said in the 20 years of being married to me she's never seen me like that..all the injuries, the few heat exaustions and etc....never have i been so weak and helpless and "out of it"...it scared her bad...

now she's fussin at me cause i want to go to the gym later..think ill listen to her though... nice day here...and i could drive the gto...but what if the dizziness came back...not cool...

i'm thankfull the doc was right.....

lesson here for me for sure...ive waited to go to doctors before...but never again.....yesterday was hell.....pure hell...... to me, my fate was uncertain...

yall dont wait either...my guess is most of you are smarter than me in this areana so that doesnt apply.....

the dogs sure picked up on it...all of them slept by my bed the whole time, the female golden on the bed up by my head...i never knew she was there.. the wolfdog was constantly smelling my breath and mouth...and ears laid back whinning.....God love em........

in my favorite words "on wit da show"...............

    the weekend cometh! y@ll hv@gr81

Wow. Glad to hear the meds are working and it wasn't worse. Sinus infections are nothing to mess around with... Especially when they're that severe.

As far as going to the doctors, I'm like you. I haven't been in over two and a half years. Last time I was there, it was for a torn ACL. Kinda had no choice. I usually just ride out an illness. Something to think about though....

whew! glad your safe . Sinus infections unlike colds will linger for 2 or 3 eternities. Just when you think you have them licked, you start your normal routines and then blammo! your sick again withthe same symtoms They linger in excess 3-4+ weeks So take it easy and dont exercise. This ain't no simple cold .

Glad your home safe and I hope you feel better

I'm very glad to hear you're OK and getting better Ken. That's dizziness and vomitting would really scare me, and thank God, it's curable by pills

Wow! I didn't know you could get that from a sinus infection. I get them 5, sometimes 6 times a year. I hate them because they make me feel like my nasal cavity is on fire. Even though it's going to be hell, avoid the gym for another day or two. You're supposed to take the occasional week off from lifting anyhow, aren't you? And drink real liquids! Coors Light doesn't count!

Glad the anti-b's are working for ya'! Even more glad that it didn't hit you harder when you were driving!

I'm just getting to be able to breath through my nose after my annual sinus infection. Dam pollen starts it every year!

Ya know you could have chugged down some Zaino and gotten the same results as the anti-biotic!

Wow..that sounds bad. I called what it was before I read it though. LOL I get sinus infections like crazy too. I am just getting over one now that I have had off and on for the past month. I'm on my second round of Antibiotics and decongestants. It makes sense that your inner ear would get infected from it because the sinuses are connected to the inner ear. The infection can move anywhere the mucus can get to. Mine moved to my throat, and then to my lungs because I was as stubborn as you about it. Only instead of dissiness, I had a severe cough, ungodly sore throat, and my lungs burned like fire whenever I breathed in deeply or coughed. I learned my lesson too. When it flared up again a couple of weeks ago, I tried to beat it myself for about 2 days, then went BACK to the doctor. Sucks too, cause my insurance hasn't kicked in yet with my new job. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I'm glad you are feeling better, take care.

Glad your better... Sinus infections sick. I had sinis surgery back in 1995 and it didn't help much. I still get a couple of sinus infections every year. I did your trick earler this year in March. I thought I got over the one I had and let is go and man I got it bad. I had a severe sinus infection along with a acute respitory infection. It took me a month of antibiotics to to get over it.

Get your rest Ken.. That's the thing I can't do is sleep when I get a sinus infection. I get run down and it just sets in worse...

                            Good luck
