Man, am I angry.

I'm at the local park with the 3 kids. It's a large playground/equipment area with a row of parking along one side. The place is full of parents and kids playing. It is located in a very nice neighborhood.

Enter 2 cars of thugs.

They park right along the edge of the play area and unload. The mothers get the kids out and come to play. The fathers sit on the trunks of their cars and procede to blast music full of profanity. Nice, just what every kid in the park needs to hear is F*** this and N***** that.

I ask one of the mothers nicely if they could go have the music turned down because it is not appropriate for the children to hear those words. She completely ignored me. Looked at me and just looked away.

I gathered up the kids and we left. I was not about to walk up to 3 black guys and start a fight. I hate it that they were able to drive us away from playtime at the park and I hate that I was too much of a pu**y to go have them turn it down. Honestly, they (thugs) scare the crap out of me when they are in a group like that. I'm not a racist and it really makes me angry that these jerk offs make me feel this way.

I keep asking myself... What could I have done instead of leaving. Gone and asked them politely to turn it down? That would of resulted in them making fun of me, I'm sure. Then what? Call the cops right in front of there faces? That would be great, like the cops are going to drop what they are doing and go to a park because some music is inappropriate.

I'd have done the same thing. Esp. with your kids there. I don't know what kind of people they were, but you never know how some people will react to a simple request. Could end up with some confrontation that your kids don't need to see and will probably never forget. If you had a couple guys with you I'd have said something for sure, in a polite way. Not that they'd have for sure got hostile, but you never know and it's good to have some backup.

Thugs are nothing. I see punks that I went to school with that were little wusses, lots of them that I had beat down, and they try to have that thug mentality. Baggy clothes, etc... It's just an image, nothing to be afraid of. They're the same pu***'s at heart.

You did the right thing, IMO.

The girlfriends were white, and the kids were mixed. I did say something to one of the girls. If the guys were white but nothing else changed, no I would not of approached them. If they didnt appear to have just gotten out of jail, yes I would of said something to them regardless of skin color.

I could hardly understand these guys talking. They had really deep voices and sounded like they had their mouths stuffed with gauze. They were the only people anywhere near the park smoking, too.

I feel bad for their kids.

In those situations, there's not much you can do. You could call the cops, but that could lead to worse things down the road. Best just to leave and leave those people alone in their own little hell, knowing other decent people despise them. yes the kids are a shame, and they will grow up just the same.

i dont think its going to be too long before some laws are placed in effect to ban that type of music in public places......friend of mine at DOT mentioned that the other day, he heard it from a Calif. state guy...... whether or not it gets enforced will be the key.......

it sucks anymore. in traffic, we hear it all the time.

It really sucks to see good people doing the right thing and feeling weak for it. I think you did the right thing, for sure...you were protecting your kids from things they didn't need to hear or see, one of those things being a bunch of people fighting.

Too bad some of the other parents didn't say anything.

I feel ya, Tracy. I've been there.

I live right next to a Catholic school and church. On Friday and Saturday nights, they run bingo until 10:00. Those same type of "thugs" show up to pick their wives or girlfiends up. They pull in and blast profanity-laced hip-hop at 10:00 at night!

Luckily, I am very good friends with three cops in my town (I'm in one of their weddings this summer). I just place a call to their cell phones, and they take care of the issue if they are on duty.

Not sure how you held your composure, Tracy. You did the right thing.

I ended up calling central police dispatch after posting this. I told them what happenned, how it made me feel and asked them what could I have done instead of leaving. They told me approaching these people would not of been a good idea and that I could of called the police.

That is nice to know, so I put the dispatch number in my cell phone. I didn't have the number handy while we were at the park, unfortunately. I wasn't about to dail 911 for a non-emergency situation.

Next time this happens I'll quietly call the cops without saying anything to the morons. Hopefully there is no next time. I'm not, however going to let them drive my family out of that park.

The best thing you could have done is to keep your cool. By showing the kids that the best choice is to avoid those types of people, you are teaching them a very valuable survival tool and setting a great example. Nicely done.

It's all about respect. Something many in our country don't believe in. I would have just left. It's easier that way. Consider the source and forget about it.

Oh, let me tell you... I was fuming mad. I'm still upset about it. I knew that if I did go over there, I'd not be polite and most likely it would cause a fight.

Let me describe this park a little-

It is a very nice play area with tons of structure to climb on, all done up in stained and painted wood. There are several towers connected with bridges and walkways, 2 swingsets, an infant/toddler playspot, Parents bring there little kids there to play, most commonly between the ages of 1 and 8 or so. It is circled by sports fields, a picnic shelter and is smack dab in the middle of the upper middle class neighborhoods on Madison's west side.

I've never seen garbage like these idiots there before. I've never seen anyone smoke near the play area before. I noticed people started leaving as soon as they arrived.

this is why minorities get away with everything these days it would be considered a hate crime if we were to say anything about their music being too loud for the content...I actualy heard of a parent (kids in car with her) suing someone for blasting the hippity hoppity in his car on the road because of the adult content she didnt want her children to hear, she won the case
