  • Setting up a home theater

I've had a 27" TV and a surround sound stereo in my finished basement for 4 years. My new large screen projector arrived today. I am in the process of rewiring everything. Has anyone designed there own screen for a home theater? I have some ideas and I found a few things on the web, I just thought I'd ask here also.

    Thanks Gary

I am not sure what you could do with the basement wall but here is what I did with my boat.

You can do a drop down screen behind a cornice or you can do a framed wall and use reflective paint designed specifically for it. You have lots of options. Give more info please.

I'm looking to build a framed screen. What has everyone used for material. I can but regular screen material or I can get the Goo systems paint and use that. I was wondering what everyone else has used and how they like the results. I just picked up a InFocus SP5000 projector.

          Thanks in advance..

My brother made his own screen. He used the screen material, but the paint is fine as well... as long as you have a flawless surface to apply it. Basically, don't buy plywood from Home Depot.

A good surface for the paint would be a sheet of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). It has a smoother surface than even the best sheet of stain-grade birch. Just be careful not to nick up the corners.
