$100 Hamburger at Florida Restaurant

Let me clue you guys in on what is going on. I lived in that area for several years and got to know the people real well. Down in that area the general attitude is "Already seen it, already done it, ho hum......yawn" The only thing that gets attention is the new and/or outrageous. Lots of egos flairing for sure. The $100 Burger is merely a way to get free advertising. Once word leaks out via the media that someone is actually charging that much for a burger ( you know the media loves controversy), people will go there just to eat at the same establishment to see it for themselves. Most of the menu is semi-reasonable, but not cheap. There is something in the description that describes the "special handling of a rare type of beef, yada yada, hype-hype and sell the whole story along with the donation. Some that are loaded will buy it just because they can. Those people do exist in abundance, usually with blue, grey or silver-white hair. It's bragging rights for people like that. The esablishment will rarely sell those burgers, but the place will be packed with customers ordering off the regular menu because of the free media exposure and hype. It won't work everywhere, but in that area it does.


By the way, it's one hell of a burger too.

Seriously... I can see where you are coming from. We have an area up here like that. I'm sure most have heard of Greenwich, Connecticut. It's full of people who get paid waaaaay too much (I only say this because when I was a finish carpenter, I worked in many of these homes. Trust me... These people are mostly part of the old boy network).

I'm not saying the restaurant shouldn't serve these burgers if they sell. I even applaud their marketing angle. I do, however, think anyone who actually spends that kind of money on a hamburger has way too much of it. Sure, they can justify it by saying $10 goes towards a good cause, but would the $125 be better spent for a $10 burger at Chili's and donate the rest?

You hit the nail on the head. Intelligence is not a prerequisite for wealth. wealth can be had by inheritance or marriage.
