  • Finally did my subwoofer install.. pics w/i

I finally got around to putting a 10" in the hatch. Just a crappy sony x-plod 10" and a 480W amp I got a few years ago. It sounds better than before of course, but I'd like to upgrade the sub and amp later.

Didnt want to lose hatch space so I built this box. I think to buy a box for this car it's like 300 bucks. Ebay has one for less but it's still too much for a box, IMO.

Run it to the positive post near the shock tower...

The ONLY real way to run it. I wouldn't rec. running this wire any other way. I poked a small hole in the grommet with a screw driver and fed the wire through. Pull the side plastics in the car and run it under the rug, behind all plastics and into the hatch. This is the grommet under the ECU.

Sounds good. Nice little extra thump in the trunk. Doesn't sound as good as when I had 2 10" subs in my other car. I was considering putting the other sub on the other side, but I'm not totally sure I wanna cut up that plastic over there just yet.

That should be a nice setup, from my experiance sony is good for the money. It is not the loudest out there but it is a good and affordable sub. If you would like more thump you could just get a better sub and better amp. However 2 sony 10s should sound nice. It would thump good but not be over kill. I had 2 kicker solobaric L7 12's with 2 power acoustik 1600w amps and i dual ported box in my beater. I got rid of it because it was just overkill, half the time i would get tirred of it and turn my radio off. If you would like to just have one sub i would highly recomend a kicker solobaric L7 10, they are 1200 watts and 600rms.

Wow You built that yourself? Awesome job! What gauge power wire are you running?

96, i hear ya on the overkill. The way my last car sounded was great. Infinity Kappa's all around, alpine head unit, and the 2 tens in the back, bridged. It sounded really good. The camaro sounds pretty good, it's just not enough thump for me. I don't like overkill tho. I should look into one of those 10's you're talking about. Def. need a better amp too.

Jeanius, I'm not sure but judging by the way it looks I'd say 8 gauge. I don't think it's a 4 gauge wire.

I was pretty happy with how it came out. I used a piece of cardboard and cut it to roughly the right shape. Then I pulled off that plastic piece in the rear, laid the cardboard inside it, and marked it with a marker, then cut the cardboard so I got the perfect shape. I cut the cardboard until it was a perfect fit in the hatch. Laid it on the wood, traced it, and cut it with the jig saw. It's just about a perfect fit.

I love how easy it is to hide wires on this car too. I'm thinking about putting a wood bracket in the spare tire spot, since I have no spare tire.

I'll bolt the wood down in that area, then screw the amp to it. I will be able to conceal all wires 100%. You will not see a single wire. I'll get pics if I decide to do that. As it is now, I just have the amp sitting on the hatch floor.

If you run 4 gauge wire all the way through it will hit harder

In the future if you wanna upgrade to a harder hitting sub and want awesome sound quality, still being able to keep that box, Id recommend the JL Audio W6v2, This sub hits like 2 12's when its being ran right and only needs 500 watts, and its recommended air space is perfect for the boxes that fit in the quarter panel, people cant believe I only got 1 10". Ive owned many and heard tons of diff subs and JL audio is the absolute best. Sometimes I wanna sell my system to buy performance parts but then I just listen to it and change my mind

I'll bet dude, that sub is over $200 alone! I don't doubt that it sounds killer though. JL Audio is THE best.
