  • Vacation is awesome!

Been out of touch for a bit, been on vacation doing........ nada. Nothing except loafing, flying RC jets and nursing my bad back. Old injuries can resurface in the blink of an eye. This one hit me the day before vacation. I just got out of the Camaro, reached back in to grab something on the floor and my back went out. Nothing to do except not do any lifting, pop a few meds and kick back. It's hard to do when I look around at all the unfinished projects. One of these days I'm probably going to have to relent to having the surgery, I'm just not fond of getting opened up. Done enough of that to last me a lifetime. I still have 4 days of loafing left so......

Maybe I should clarify the flying bit....... flying some and crashing others. Had an F-4 almost take my head off a couple days ago. It started from high altitude, did a wing over and power dive. Pulled up for a loop and did that with ease. The second loop the altitude was a little low, the last thing I saw was the jet headed straight for me and there was no way I was going to turn in time as it was pulling up. I dove for the deck, the jet screamed over me at a altitude of about 4 feet and continued pulling skyward. I got up, regained control and brought it in for a landing. Yikes! That one was waaayyy too close. My 747 went down in high winds when it stopped responding. Fortunately the last input had it in a decending turn, it made a few circles and came down in heavy grass unharmed. Whew! Also was playing in a flock of birds ( I think swallows?) with a small F-16 and having a blast taking turns with following the leader and such. They were really playful, I almost felt like one of them. Nature is a blast.

    Back to loafing.....

That's awesome, Joe. Getting into R/C planes is on my list of things to do in the next couple years. I was hooked when a friend got his in the air and handed me the controls (after much schooling on them first). I had a blast with it. Gave it back to him and he landed it.

Rest your back and have your son pick everything up for you. That's what kids are for.

    Get well.

We were out dogfighting this morning. We have some small biplanes on different channels and have a blast together. He's already flying some of the bigger stuff but isn't to the point of being able to handle fast moving sport planes or military jets. Although..... he did solo the 747, but that is really stable in flight when there is no wind. He landed with a picture perfect soft setdown just like a pro. The look on his face when he landed was worth everything. He was also laughing his butt off at his old man hitting the deck with a jet screaming overhead. This is some of the best part of life. Enoying the time spent with family, friends and hobby too.

Good stories Joe. It always makes me feel good inside to hear about nice father-son or father-daughter hobbies.
