    She's all mine

2002 Firehawk # 35 is paid in full. Yesterday I made car payment # 60 of a 5 year loan. No more huge car payments... which means I'll have mod money for a change

For 5 years, I've been paying for her, no great mods, no fancy schmancy vacations, no toys no 'nuttin.

I ordered her as soon as 2002 order could be made (May 2001 I believe) with all available options. She was built June 1st 2001, sent to SLP June 2nd. She was delivered to me after a Mr. Oakely (Head GM logistics mgr) hot ticketed all F-bodies going to New England, as a favor for me (needed 15 cars per rail car) . I picked her up August 25, 2001... the 35th Firehawk built that year... what a number 35 years of F-bodies and I get #35 .

I took advantage of the GM Employee discount so that got me 2k+ below invoice on her, but still had large car payments.

Man what a feeling knowing she is really owned by me, not some bank

She's in the shop having the optional spoiler fixed as there was a defect in the spoiler causing the plaster like material below the paint to flake off. having 3 coats of color and 4 coats of clear shot.

As a treat, I plan to have LT's installed in August to celebrate having her 5 years besides I no longer have a $696 car payment looming over my head each month

I remember the day I paid off mine. It is truely a great feeling to get out from under a car payment.

        ???

Joe I cant seem to find Middle of nowhere on my Fla. map. Have your ever raced at Immokalee? I think its near Sebring. I live in Wesley Chapel, Fla. which is on the map. At least it was the last time I looked.

Immokalee is about another hour or so south of here. I think that is actually the outer edge of nowhere. Their main calim to fame is the annual Swamp Cabbage Festival. The track is an 1/8th mile and I haven't been brave enough to go there. Bradenton is a much nicer track and I can be there in an hour.

          I'm not kidding.

Wesley Chapel...... I played a few rounds of golf right there at Saddlebrooke. Nice area. A buddy of mine lives in Zephyrhills, I go though there on a regular basis.

A good feeling for sure! Congrats and I'm glad you still get excited about the car! That's how I feel about mine after 11 years. Still glad to see her. Means I made a good purchase.

                    Outskirts

Sebring looked like a nice town when I passed thru it. Do they still have the Sebring 12 hr. race? When we had the Beretta we had planned to go to Immokalee, as they were paying 5,000 to win with no entry fee for the heads up cars. Heard that there was no staging area. You backed up to two stacked trailers, (the timing tower), to stage. Then you drove into blackness after the end of the track, so we never went. Bradenton is the best track in central Fl. Gainesville does not have any heads up program, and very little else. I believe it exists only for the Gatornationals.

                      Thanks Y'all

After 5 years of car payments, I can honestly say that I have learned more about finances, than my entire 6 years of college. College really doesn't educate one about credit, financing, retirement funds. If I didn't get this car, I probably wouldn't have learned as much as I have. So end the end #35 has given me invaluable insight in what it really takes to afford what I desire, and the patience to obtain it the proper way versus the go-into-credit-card-debt (aka American way )

Now my primary goal is to finish paying off my CC...
Put away for a rainy day fund, which I've never been able to do before (6 months-1 year of salary) ...
Maximize my retirement funds (FERS and TSP (I'm gvt) )
Start saving for a house (I want to move to Orlando - too xpnsv in RI)
and of course save up for a new toy, if something comes along (like the challenger ) and I have a laundry list of mods I desire, but only after I take care of necessary living expenses first

So in the end the car from the pessimists (?sp) perspective was a financial boondoggle.. but from my perspective, I've gained a lot wisdom in dealing with it , and that cannoot be learned from schools or universities from my experience

Now about the long tubes... well that's next month
