  • E-Mail scam????

    I just got this e-mail from <eBay-US.090262831.610007.5@reply.ebay.com>

    "Dear Value customer,

There is a problem with the card you used while bidding at one of our auctions.
A communication problem with the bank server might have caused that problem too
but we are unable to collect our commission.

Until the problem is solved you would need to use a different card so, please,
log into your account and enter the new card details.

    eBay Service
Looking forward to a good co-operation.

    Sincerely Yours,
    Teri Lott
    eBay inc - Security."

I haven't bought anything off eBay in years. I sure as heck haven't put any credit card info on the site. So, I figure either this is a phishing scam of some sort with a fake billing info site, or some dillhole was trying to buy something with the credit card info that was apparently stolen from me a while back when I had to cancel the card cause someone tried to buy some stereo equipment with it. I'm afraid to even click on the "eBay Service" link for fear that it may have a virus attached or something. Should I forward this to eBay and ask if it is for real?

Report this to Ebay immediately. It is absolutely a scam. Ebay will then report it to the necessary authorities.

Absolutely report it to E-bay. Absolutely DO NOT click on any link in the e-mail. If you are curious about your account open your browser and go to e-bay directly <www.ebay.com> and check your account that way.

I get about 10 ebay scam emails a day. I tried reporting them to ebay one time but they really don't care.

                Scams

I do not deal with E bay. Ordered something from a seller there and it was not what they had advertised. There is no help from E bay they are just a Web site. Fortunately it was only 35.00, but the deception was there. I have never delt with E bay since. I get all kinds of scams on the internet. The ones from Nigeria are the stupidest. These morons can't spell or make a sentence, to save thier lives and they say there are millions in some account that they need you to access for them. I imagine you have to send a fee to them and thats where they score. What a crock.

As long as you use Paypal, especially when combined with a good credit card, Ebay poses no real threat. You're missing out on a lot of great buys if you avoid it all together.

I know how you feel though. I was burned when I first used Ebay (in '98 I believe). I didn't use Paypal. I payed by money order and never received the item. Luckily, I've had great experiences ever since. My credit card protects against things like that. Paypal offers some protection. Just make sure to save every reciept and email you get from the seller, and ALWAYS check their feedback.
