  • happy $unday.......$$$$

buddy of mine that owns his own HVAC is comming over at 10:30am ...to take the measurements and make the equipment list for installing a new hvac system in our house... price quote is $4500.00........ includes everything...

guess we cant complain too much. this is the original unit that came in the house, and the house was built in 1979.... we bought it in 1991......

it just keeps going downhill...and with this last heat wave..... thats the icing on the cake........

after that....its goat in the pasture running time!

I think mine is on it's last leg too! I'm just praying it makes it through this summer.

The Hawk's AC is already gone. Since I haven't been driving no big deal but I gotta get her fixed too!

Good you got a bud in the business. Hopefully he can give you a little bit of a break.

Believe it or not, you'll probably save enough money from the switch to pay for the unit in less than 7 years. My guess, the 1979 unit had a SEER of about 7.0. The new units have a minimum of about 14.0, going on up to 18.0. You're best bet, take the lowest SEER needed to get the rebate. (probably 15.0) Don't "splurge" for the top - o - the - line model, as it's increased efficiency usually doesn't justify the exponentially higher price.

      Enjoy!

It's so dang hot here, my house AC won't keep up. I'm about to fire the unit up in my garage and leave the inner door open.

Being an Environmental Scientist an all...I've done a lot to boost the efficienciency of my house. Besides the basics (adding another layer of R-19 insulation in the attic, sealing up any air leaks around the windows, fabricating an attic box out of foam for the pull down stairs, etc.), I've started adding heat reflective window film to all of my windows. Achieves the same results (if not a bit better) than replacing all the windows with low-E glass.

The product is made by Gila, and goes on the inside just like regular car tint. It's virtually clear, yet reflects 97% Infared heat out, 99% U.V blocking, and retains the heat in the house in the winter.

The product is similar to mylar, except is using sputtered metal instead of metallized film. So far, I'm extremely happy. The light get's in, but not the heat! You can acutally feel the difference in the house...

Check it out...it's sold at Lowe's.

I have a poorly insulated house. It's not that it wasn't insulated well, its the fact that it is all windows. Not much R factor in windows.

Oh, I have been running it. It has been miserable here. It is very strange just quit blowing out of the vents and freezes your feet off. I think it is in the dash but since surgery I have been unable to get down and look at it. Quit saying your sorry. She is doing great otherwise and still looks beautiful.
