  • Hybrid-Mutant Animal Found Dead in Maine

    http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/15288944.htm

I've heard stories about this thing in the past, and they aren't sure if this is the same animal people have talked about for the last 15 years.

Ken - There is a small sentence about 3/4 the way through the article about hunters who had shot a wolfdog some time ago. Not sure if you had heard about it or not.

know all about this, thanks...and the wolfdog. that wolfdog had mange real bad...deformed it.

this animal may be a coyote chow mix... chances are, it had a tooth abcess, left untreated.. that caused the head to swell...and might explain the foul odor some folks said they smelled. pretty small dog to take down a dobie or a rot... so it was stressed way out..... walking dead. im glad its out of its missery.

We've got a weird looking hybrid running around here. I swear to you that it looks like a fox mixed with some sort of dog. I know that sounds crazy, but my dad and I have both laid eyes on it from less than 5 feet away (me with a gun in my hand prepped to kill it because it has been attacking my pit bull mix).

why not call animal contol and have them catch it or trap it and call them. its a victim of missplacement... dont kill it.

I wish they had better pictures, you would think if it was this mutant dog they would really go crazy with the pictures and indulge courious minds.

Wolfman, sorry for the slow response but I've been on vacation, and my dog is STILL at the vet being treated for injuries from this "thing".

The reason I can't call animal control is because I'm in the county. There IS no animal control out here. It's a city-only thing, just like the leash laws. They've recently passed a law here that would set up animal control for the county, but to my knowledge, that is not possible right now. Also, the animal runs around with no leash or collar. It's somebody's pet (it's always clean and well fed), but the folks in the newer neighborhood behind me don't fence their dogs in. So at this point, it's either their dog or my dog, and it will end with me, a .40 cal, and a dead mutant-hybrid-whatever pain in my butt buried behind the garage.

Wolfman, you asked me why I won't call animal control, and I can't because there is no animal control in the county I live in, to my knowledge. This hybrid-looking-dog is someone's pet, because it is well fed and clean, but it is allowed to run around freely. It and at least one other dog that I know of came on my property and attacked my dog, putting him at the vet for what is now going on it's third week. His wounds were healing from the inside out, and they are just now able to stitch them closed for final healing.

So, since I don't know whose dogs they are, and I can't call animal control to come get them if they come back, then they will be shot if they come on my property again. Killing unrestrained animals is legal here as long as they pose a threat, and putting my dog in the vet's office for 3 weeks is DEFINITELY a threat.

I would say shooting animals that are posing a threat to your pets while on your property is fair.
