  • Interesting email I received today (military related)

This came from a personal friend of mine, who is currently on active duty in Iraq. Apparently it's making it's rounds through email of active duty soldiers and their families. Interesting stuff.

    JOHN GLENN SAID

Things that make you think a little:

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the
month of January. That's just one American city,
about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq.

When some claim that President Bush shouldn't
have started this war, state the following:

    a. FDR led us into World War II.

    b. Germany never attacked us; Japan did.
    >From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 112,500 per year.

    c. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea.
    North Korea never attacked us.
    >From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 18,334 per year.

d John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
    Vietnam never attacked us.

    e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
    >From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 5,800 per year.

    f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
    Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three
times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on
    multiple occasions.

    g. In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush
has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled
al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and, North
Korea withou! t firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who
slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

    The Democrats are complaining
about how long the war is taking.
    But
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno
to take the Branch Davidian compound.
That was a 51-day ope! ration..

We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons
in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find
the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the
Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard
than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his
    Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took
to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB!
    The Military morale is high!

The biased media hopes we are too ignorant
    to realize the facts

    But Wait .

    There's more!

JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR)
    Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13

Some people still don't understand why military personnel
do what they do for a living. This exchange between
Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum
is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive
impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one
man's explanation of why men and women in the armed
serv! ices do what they do for a living.

This IS a typical, though sad, example of what
some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
"How can you run for Senate
when you've never held a real job?"

    Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps.
I! served through two wars. I flew 149 missions.
My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different
occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my
checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was
not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the
daily cash receipts to the bank."

"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day...
to a veteran's hospital and look those men ...
with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell THEM
    they didn't hold a job!

You go with me to the Space Program at NASA
and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans
of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...
and you look those kids in the eye and tell them
that their DADS didn't hold a job.

You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in
Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends
buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch
    those waving flags.

You stand there, and you think about this nation,
and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job?

    What about you?"

For those who don't remember ..
During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney
representing the Communist Party in the USA.

    Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran.

It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating
"No, officer, that bottle is my onboard Halon system"

And if you're a student reading this in a cold room with minimal heat...be happy your politicians are in a nice heated Mercedes from Halliburton.

Im sorry, I can't just read that without saying anything.

I think it is a ridiculously unjust war.

What do you know about Haliburton? Do you know that they were under contract during some of the Clinton administration?

And just what company do you know of or ever even heard of who can go put out oil well fires and do construction in a war zone? That isn't a skill that just anyone has.

Don't just go out and watch an untruthful movie made by a pathetic cowardly walking bag of saturated fat and start blathering on about stuff you know nothing about!

Unjust? Is it unjustified to remove a dictator that killed tens of thousands of his own people just because he didn't like their heritage? A leader who invaded his neighbor country, raped, pillaged and murdered thousands in that country? A head of state that used chemical weapons at least twice once on his neighbors and once on his own countrymen? A president of a country who defied the international community for 12 years because he wouldn't give up his weapons programs? A head of state that advocated a meat grinder to kill people he didn't like? A thug who let his kids run around and snatch a woman off the street to rape? You have to be kidding. What justifies a war to you or is it peace at any price?

          Ditto...nicely said.

I'm sick and tired of the crap "W" is getting. The crazy thing is, he keeps a cool head...which, I think, only makes the people that hate him, hate him more.

Now, we're taking about what we can and can't do to terriorist... They take our troops, our boys, someone's brother, someone's son...mutilate them, cut off their genitalia and stuffs them in their mouths, TORTURES them...and we can't pour water over terrorists heads? Are you kidding me? Before we know it, we'd have to read terrorist their maranda rights before we can pull the trigger..."Sir, you have the right to remain si, BANG"...

          Just doesn't make any sense.

Firstly, I knew I was going to get blasted even on the slightest thing that I said against W. Are you aware of what's going on in Sierra Leone Jeff? Why isn't the United States doing anything? Why dont we bring them democracy?

Nothing was said about Bush. We are discussing, at least Jeff was, trying to justify a war that no one wants to accept. We're liberating that country. But for whatever reason, media mostly, all we get the negative aspect for the war...that also pose a threat to us. Take out the enemy before the enemy takes us out.

And the United States; we do more internationally than any other nation in the world. You know...I suggest we remove all our international funding and observe how much the world needs a nation like ours. We have a military presence in more than 28 nations...keeping peace. Something that the UN can't pull off if they tried...come on. Have pride in your country. Be proud...not saying you're not, but support us.

I'll be the first to sign up if WAR (yes, we are in a war) breaks out on our own soil.

I didn't say a word about Bush. I might remind you that removing Saddam was the goal of the Clinton administration too. Another words it has been the goal of the United States not the Democrats or the Republicans. It is the goal because it is the right thing to do.

I know what is going on in a lot of bad places. Why isn't the United States doing anything? Because we don't have the resources or the will power of the people to do it. Have you noticed how the democrats were for helping other countries when Clinton was in charge and now that Bush is in charge the democrats are against it. The republicans were against it when Clinton was in charge and now are for it when Bush is in charge. It's partisan politics and I'm sick of it. I backed Clinton when he was in charge and I back Bush while he is in charge. That is what Americans should do. Cleaning out these hell holes is the right thing to do. But people who take sides because their political party is in control or not in control is sickening.

He's a real gun hater, too. As if the Jewish people never learned enough lessons about surrendering their means to self defense. Ask an Israelie about gun control and they will slap their UZI and tell you that everyone in their country gets to do 2 years in the Army serving their country. They think Jews in the US are funny.
