  • Ken...getting started with Zaino on a new car

hope you don't mind if I publicly pick your brain, Ken, but such is the price you pay for being a guru.

I just place an order for Zaino products in anticipation of the arrival of my Z06 and had a few questions.

How long should I wait before I use the claybar? I've heard it's best to wait awhile to let the paint cure before using that.

Should I still use dawn before the first Zaino application? I'm guessing the NCM staff will use some sort of wax.

Anyhow, just wondered if you had a particular regimen for a new car to get it started right. This car will never see anything but nice weather and I want to stretch out periods between washings like you have with your GTO.

I plan to spend a lot of time on the Zaino process.

Rubbing Zaino all over a new C6Z..............now that has to be the equivalent of rubbing suntan lotion all over a half nude Victoria's Secret Model!

    Congrats with the car.

since you are taking delievery of the car right after it was built...wait a month or so. most of the time, when cars reach the dealerships...even ordered ones...the clear has cured. remember, the clay bar will not remove zaino..it just pulls the impurties out of the clear

i wouldnt think they would wax it. a little know fact is zaino was approved by the NCM as the only polsih you can apply to a brand new corvette. but wash it with dawn...that will take off any impurities and make it squeekly clean for your first coat.

be sure and use zfx, not the z1, i know you most likely will use the zfx...had to say it though. LOL. use the new z5pro first... and do three coats in one sitting. follow the instructions on the zfx box. the next day...do three more z5pros'. now you have a great base. switch over to z2pro...using zfx...and put on a coat when you feel like it. be sure and use a light mist of z6 and buff it off between coats, not only does it enhance the gloss...it helps to harden the cure more.

now..one thing ive always done, and i think it pays off.. is that i put on extra coats on the nose, lower rocker pannels, and rear deck and bumper, and mirrors. i call these "high impact areas"..because they are just that...they see more blasting from highway dust than the rest of the car. just when every feel like it, cause it only takes a few min. to apply...then come back and buff it off then z6. do the nose one night...rear next...ect.. i must have twice as many coats on those sections than the rest of the car... which has around 13 coats on it now...

now.. i use a calif duster after each drive...very lightly, very carefully... then go over the car with z6 and put her to bed. once every few months..or more.. you will want to wash it though.... and sheet the water... not spray... the duster wont get the fine stuff in the crevaces and nooks and crannies like washing does...

              another question...

been reading your instructions, and wondered when you would use "Z-8 Grand Finale Spray Seal" (since I threw some into my order.)

also, you're saying don't use the Z1 at all?

if you use zfx, you dont need to use z1. it even states that on his site.... i dont use it anymore...(z1)

z8 is z6 on steroids... but its exspensive... i dont use it inbetween coats... i use it before i take the car out for a ride... or after i get back and californ. duster it off.... its the most awesome stuff in the world. wait till you use it!

hey! people love my humongous quad CME.

                              ok...another question for ya...

I have a pressure sprayer that I've been using on the SS, careful around seals, etc. I use it with the hope of removing as much dirt touchlessly as possible.

what is your opinion of using pressure washers?

btw, mine is rated at 1750 psi, but I don't use full pressure and I try to maintain a 6-8 inch distance at all times.

the reason I ask is you mentioned sheeting the water when washing, and a pressure washer is the opposite of that.

I have alway given the SS a final sheeting rinse after washing to make drying easier. I dry with an electric blower, again trying to be as touchless as possible.
